POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Big Turn Music Fest took place Friday and Saturday in Red Wing, Minnesota. This year’s iteration of the annual event brought more than 100 musical acts from across the region to 15 venues spread across the center of Red Wing, a city of 17,000 and the seat of Goodhue County, situated at the “big turn” of the Mississippi River. The two-day festival fills the city of Red Wing with music as performances take place in typical venues as well as in unexpected places like a clothing store or a bike shop.

As is typical for such an ambitious and wide-ranging music festival, day one of Big Turn featured an array of musical styles, including rock bands, singer-songwriters, hip-hop acts, big bands, string bands and more.

This past week has kept me busy. On Wednesday I played at @bgcoffeehouse in Winona and thank you to those friends of mine who came out to say hello and catch up a little. It is always great to see you!!

Then Friday and Saturday night I had the opportunity to provide a sound system and mix a number of bands I had not heard live before, at the @bigturnmusicfest in Red Wing, MN. @bomonro and his crew did a great job of packaging a variety of musical talent at @tootsietoos – a children’s boutique + resale store in downtown #RedWing. They have great stuff throughout the store, stop in & check it out! Thanks to Jamie Groth @skyvudrivein and @northernsunproductions for the opportunity to provide sound reinforcement again.

Friday night:
@Kod (Twin Cities) – A nice vibe w/self produced accompaniment music. Also, a great review from @n.novotny to help build my interest!

The Bored (Red Wing) – A high energy indie-rock group with great original songs and trombone to spice up the sound. Plus, the drummer in the band is named Jason!! Sorry, no photo.

@pure_shifter (Twin Citiew) - Nice guys who had a moment of panic and then it all came together with an intellectual indie/punk ethos through a modern electronic/dance prism. Sorry, no photo.

@thewintersloths (Fergus Falls) – Rocked in a fun a familiar alt-rock sort of way. The harmonies & hooks were killer!

Saturday night:
@james.eugene.russell (Twin Cities) – He melds all of his life experience into a sound that he describes as “country midwestern”. Providing a solid vocal and acoustic guitar performance that worked in all of the right ways.

@loreweavers (Twin Cities) – An inter-dimensional fantasy party band that loves sea shanty songs. An experience for sure and highly recommended. Happy to see @trevorwoggon applying his talents in this group too. @scullness reassured me via text message before the gig that this band mixes themselves… lol!!

@leaguetwoband (Twin Cities) - They had a great sound reflecting early '80s post-punk sounds, and modern indie flair. Cool retro videos and tight playing!

@radowlband (Twin Cities) – Melodic punk rock that rocked loud and hard. Great sound and earplugs were encouraged!!
