I'm good on my own, but they make me better 🥰 as we get closer to the release date of my first independent production "Gyals Night Out", I want to share some BTS from the shoot day in July. Everyone involved with this project had something special to offer during this process. Some intangible things offered include patience, grace, expertise, talent, mindfulness, and overall kindness ❤️ not only did you all give these things to me but to one another in the process. Having a team that works cohesively doesn't happen every day, so I won the lottery this summer!

The 20s became a decade about re-imagining the Black Body in light of emancipation. During this era, everything was “New.” The New Negro Man and New Negro Woman became pillars for redefining Black People in spaces of elegance and grace. With further advancements in photography, Black Women were now able to use the photographic image to create a new self. They became part of the “new” and helped shift the view of Blackness into a lens of racial uplight and beauty. In Harlem, legendary artists, educators, and writers began to stirr the rebirth of freedom and reclamation of self in Black artistic expression. Zora Neale Hurston, Langston Hughes, Claude McKay, Aaron Douglas, Archibald Motely, Augusta Savage, James Van Der Zee, Laura Wheeler Waring, Sterling Brown, Josephine Baker, and Clara Smith are just few of the countless who produced the work that encompassed this cultural explosion. Following the Great Migration and a Black dream of political, economic, and cultural empowerment, the Harlem Renaissance produced one of the most significant eras of cultural expression in the nation’s history. The recording of Smith’s “Crazy Blues” revealed a gaping appetite for records made by Black People, for Black People. Ma Rainey, Bessie Smith, Ida Cox, Edith Wilson, Ethel Walters, Victoria Spivey, Sippie Wallace, Alberta Hunter, and Sara Martin are just few of the dozens of women who shaped the art form and what followed. But we all know Black Music didn’t originate in 1920. Though popularized and praised during the jazz and blues boom of the 20s, the blues largely gained recognition packing out venues and juke joints alike in 1910 and before. While the history of the blues today is largely dominated by men, the work and effort of the monumental women who started the blues recording era will never be overlooked. For Black, Working-Class Women, the classic blues was an unprecedented new arena of self-expression, which gave Black Women a voice to overt sexuality, become avatars of liberation, and truly connect with one another. These singers didn’t wait for the world to be ready to listen. So why should you? Tiffany is a mental health advocate, social media influencer known as Koko T, and the founder of Into Me See, a guided prompt platform for positive mental health. She took a moment to appreciate Black American culture and the influence of African American heritage and traditions throughout the United States. She reflected on how deeply this culture is woven into American society, so much so that it is often overlooked or taken for granted, especially by first generation immigrants and children of immigrants from abroad, including those within the African diaspora. While reading conversations online, Tiffany noticed someone criticizing Black American culture who was later called out for cosplaying as Black American. She found this moment eye opening and it led her to reflect on how influential Black American culture is to Black people living in the United States who are of African descent but not foundational Black Americans. Too often, Black Americans are not given proper recognition for how deeply their culture shapes music, language, style, values, and everyday life. Tiffany simply wanted to give Black Americans their props while also honoring the shared connection and respect that exists across the diaspora.
