My Nana, Maryann Vigliotti, was met with peace this morning as she passed from this life to the next. She had been ready to let go of the great deal of physical pain she was in for some time now, but always a fighter no matter what, until recently, was too strong to begin the process. @sarahraynebow and I had the chance to be with her one last time in late May, and soon after that her health declined.

In life it was always so clear how much Nana loved me and all her grandchildren, @geenabmoc , @itsmals , and Bella. I know her spirit still loves all of us.

I'm so grateful, especially for the long talks I've had with her over the past few years on my visits back to Syracuse. Almost always in a hospital room, but the walls seemed to fade away as she told me stories of her life and even how to dispell a curse ( The malocchio/evil eye ) with olive oil.

Thank you Nana. Will always miss you.

And to all my family. My heart is already with you and Sarah and I will see you all on Wednesday with puppy in tow.

My birthday yesterday was full of reminders of how much I am loved. I am constantly grateful for my loving family, my amazing partner @sarahraynebow , and all my wonderful friends around the globe and the outpouring of love from them brought on tears of joy several times this week.

This was a particular emotional and transformative week for my relationship with my mom and sister. I need no reminder of how much they love me and yet I remained nervous about discussing how I intend to legally change my name this year. Despite my nerves I knew that it was important to discuss this with my family. Despite some initial difficulty, and heightened emotions, with my mom she in the end proved what I know to be true: that she loves and supports me no matter what; my sister was of course very supportive and I didn't expect anything less.

And then my Mom made a little Facebook post in which she exclusively called me Kat. The moment I saw this I started crying. I don't think anything has been as affirming to my gender identity than that was.

Thank you to everyone who reached out. Thank you to everyone who has nourished and supported me in this life time. Thank you to everyone who has made me who I am.

If I am able to do great things in this life it is because of all of you. I love you all.
