50 States, 50 Songs - Episode 32: Connecticut ⛵️

As a Long Islander, The Nutmeg State has always perplexed me. Is it REALLY part of the Tri-State Area? What do you mean both Yankees and Red Sox fans live here? That’s how you pronounce “apizza?” Anyway, I wanted to deviate away from the hard rock and heavy metal that has dominated most of this series so far, so that led me to my college fraternity brother, the one and only @itsnackley. This Darien-raised, Norwalk-based electronic music producer knows how to get the people dancing and I figured I’d join in on the party!

Last Stop: Crete ⛰️🌊🇬🇷

The birthplace of Zeus—and somehow a place that feels just as mythical as the stories it inspired.

The first thing that struck me was the scale of it. Crete is massive, and we barely scratched the surface. It's one of those places that makes you realize you could spend weeks exploring and still leave with more to discover.

The landscape is unlike anywhere I've ever been. Towering mountains rise straight out of impossibly blue water, and around every corner is another view that makes you say, "Okay... this can't be real." It's spectacular.
Getting to those views, however... is an adventure in itself. The winding mountain roads will have you questioning every life decision you've ever made, but somehow the destination always makes the drive worth it.

One of the highlights was taking a boat trip to Gramvousa, swimming out to the famous shipwreck, and then spending the afternoon at Balos Lagoon, where the crystal-clear sea meets warm, shallow lagoons in shades of blue I didn't know existed. It honestly felt like stepping into another world.

When we weren't exploring, we stayed at the beautiful Blue Elephant Boutique Hotel, where we spent afternoons by the pool, completely mesmerized by the view. Sometimes the best part of traveling isn't rushing to the next place—it's sitting still long enough to appreciate where you already are.

Crete left me wanting more. More time, more road trips, more beaches, more mountain villages, more sunsets. We only experienced a tiny piece of this incredible island, and I already know I'll be back to explore it properly one day.

Until next time, Crete. 💙

The French term for bachelor party is l’enterrement de vie de garçon (the burial of the life of a boy), which is pretty MTL if you ask us. 🇨🇦🤘🏻🦫

Next Stop: Naxos 🤍🇬🇷🌊

This island has a way of slowing you down—in the best possible way. Crystal-clear water, winding whitewashed streets, sunsets that don't look real.

Naxos reminded me that sometimes the best adventures aren't the ones you plan—they're the ones where you wander, linger a little longer, swim, order another glass of wine, live in the present, and let the day unfold.

We rented a car and drove around the island, which was an adventure in itself because driving in Greece is...an experience. You spend half the time wondering why the roads are technically two-way while people are flying around windy blind narrow corners. We stumbled across this incredible salt flat in Mikri Viglia that led to one of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen, though it's very rocky there we took a quick dip.

After exploring we always love going back to our favorite beach on the island Agios Georgios, that has super soft sand and is perfect for swimming and lounging.

Naxos is also a huge destination for kite sailing; they have schools everywhere, with slogans like "Learn to sail with the gods."

The sunsets there were unreal too. They last three hours, with the colors constantly shifting. Theres also wandering through the old town and castle area which is so charming. And of course the locals cats all over the island. I would bring bites out for them to eat in the evenings.

And there's the Temple of Apollo, which honestly feels like a portal to another world, especially at sunset.

Naxos is definitely a place I'd go back to in a heartbeat. 💙✨

First Stop: Athens 🇬🇷🏛️🤍

I've wanted to visit Greece for as long as I can remember, and Athens was the place to kick off what turned into one of the wildest, most beautiful adventures of my life.✨

So, fair warning: for a little bit my feed is about to become a love letter to this trip. Sorry... but also not sorry. 😜😘

Athens welcomed us by immediately humbling us. The sun is absolutely unforgiving, we somehow managed to walk 20,000+ steps every single day, and we quickly learned that dinner in Greece isn't just dinner—it's an event. Four-hour meals are the norm, which meant there were definitely moments where we were wandering the streets asking ourselves, "Wait... are we ever going to eat again?"

And then there was the Acropolis. It genuinely took my breath away. I may have even shed a tear or two standing there, trying to take in the fact that I was finally seeing something I'd dreamed about.

But one of my favorite moments happened just below it. We found a little bench beneath an olive tree near the Theatre of Dionysus and sat there for fifteen minutes just marveling at how ancient it all was. I couldn't stop wondering who had sat in that very spot before us over the last few thousand years. It was one of those rare moments where time seemed to disappear.🌳

The city itself, there was street art everywhere. Graffiti covering entire buildings. Cats around every corner. Flea markets, vendors, musicians, artists, people rushing to work, just living their everyday lives and trying to make it. It's gritty, chaotic, and completely itself... 💙

Whirlwind 48 hours in New York playing Good Room, hanging out with friends and exploring one of my favourite cities. Wrapping up with Sinead O’Connor and Le Tigre at 5:15 Sunday morning in the most friendly club was a special memory. We rammed it! Love forever to Josh for his continued trust and to Arvin and Nackley for the perfect warmup. 🗽

Up next this month - TNI at Ulster Sports Club before a return to Milano! 🇮🇹
