Two amazing things that happened over the past two weekends: ⬇️

1️⃣ Spartan DEKA Debut
Officially completed my first hybrid race in 56 minutes…. WOOHOO!!! 👍🏻😃🙌 It was definitely tougher than anticipated, but 100% worth it (already planning for next year hopefully!!). Huge shoutout to my coach @misskgfit for providing me all the motivation throughout and guidance in the past few weeks leading up to this!! I also loved volunteering at setup the day before! Yet, it was definitely an awesome chance to build great new connections and learn so much about the event from the inside out! @deka.fit #spartandeka🏅💪

2️⃣ Bro Moved to College! (Swipe to pic 14) 🐝
My brother is officially moved in at Georgia Tech! I’m going to miss sharing all the crazy household moments together over the last 13 years. From crushing it at Cary Academy in XC, robotics, debate, Chinese, and coding to working non-stop this summer prepping for CS, he’s set up to do incredible things. #goyellowjackets 💻🧬👨🏻‍💻🧧🏃📖

Even though I couldn’t be there in person for the send-off due to car space and work, I know he’s gonna absolutely crush his freshman year!! Praying that he’ll have a really great semester!! Can’t wait until he’s home for break—love ya, bro! ❤️

Yesterday wasn’t about winning anything.

It was about finding out what all these miles, early mornings, hard sessions, and uncomfortable days were actually building.

My first DEKA. First hybrid race. I showed up with no expectations besides finishing, competing, and seeing where I stood.

Somewhere between the running and those 10 zones, I realized something:

You don’t always notice yourself getting better while you’re doing the work. Sometimes you have to put yourself in a situation that forces you to see it.

And somehow… I walked away 4th in my age group. 🤯

I didn’t expect that. I wasn’t chasing a podium. I was just trusting the work.

Running brought me here. Training prepared me for it. Now I’m even more curious about how far I can take this.

First DEKA in the books. Definitely not the last. 🏃🏾‍♂️🔥

Keep showing up. One day the work you thought nobody could see will introduce you to a version of yourself you haven’t met yet.

A non-curated post of DEKA.

I genuinely didn’t know what I was getting myself into with this one. I woke up not feeling great, and I hadn’t specifically trained for some of these movements (and had never done a few of them before), so there was definitely a learning curve.

DEKA FIT = 10 fitness zones, with 500m of running before each one:

Station 1: 30 RAM alternating reverse lunges
Station 2: 500m row
Station 3: 20 box jump/step overs
Station 4: 25 med ball sit-up throws
Station 5: 500m ski erg
Station 6: 100m farmer’s carry
Station 7: 25-calorie air bike
Station 8: 20 dead ball shoulder overs
Station 9: 100m sled push/pull
Station 10: 20 RAM burpees

(Missing videos from bike and burpees in here)

I walked away with a much better idea of what this kind of race actually demands. There are things I’d do differently next time (including keeping better track of my laps…missed one 🥲) but that’s part of trying something new.

Not every race has to be perfect to be worth doing. Sometimes you just show up, see what you can do, and learn from it.

First DEKA ✔️

*song choice because I heard this song during one of my runs and it got me in the zone lol

Also huge shoutout to Nicole Ponce for the videos and moral support and the entire @empiretrainingacademyraleigh crew. I never felt like I was alone out there 💙
