We would like to introduce Alumni Talum Smith who graduated at the age of 20 this past May.

Talum says,

“My favorite thing about being on the wrestling team was being around such diverse people who felt like family to me and having them by my side to push me and believe in me. Being on the team pushed me to be a better athlete, student, and helped me gain mental toughness I didn’t know I was capable of. Currently I am recovering from knee surgery, but still enjoying the relaxation before I start my masters program at Regent University: School of Law at the end of August. Although my journey at Ferrum has ended it will always be my home away from home and I can’t wait to watch the women’s wrestling team flourish and grow even more! #ForeverAPanther 🖤💛”

Talum Smith, a student and wrestler at Ferrum College, was honored as Wrestle Like A Girl’s 2019 recipient of the Afsoon Roshanzamir Johnston Courage Award. ⠀
⠀
Talum has been working on parallel pursuits of excellence on and off the mat for years. She has wrestled with, and overcome, more adversity than a traditional college athlete at her age.⠀
⠀
“Courage is trying to be outstanding,” said Talum. “It’s the mental push you have to give yourself regardless of your circumstances. It’s a belief in yourself and knowing that you will have a positive outcome, and if not that you will find a way to get an outcome that you want.”⠀
⠀
Talum’s story and relationship with courage is inspiring. ⠀
