My first time in Provincetown I was unimpressed. It was a drive-by visit down Commercial about 15 years ago, on the coldest day in March. On that cold winter day, I didn’t fully grasp the gravitas of this one-of-a-kind place at the end of road. Its role in American history, its unchallenged spot on the queer atlas, and the rarefied beauty you find at every turn.

Now, dozens of visits later, “unimpressed” is about the furthest reaction from my mind when I think of the town writer Michael Cunningham called “One of relatively few places in America that not only tolerates eccentricity, but prefers it.” From Mary Oliver to Anthony Bourdain and everyone in between, this is the type of town that marks people and turns them into free-thinking heroes.

I’ve made and galvanized so many friendships here. I’ve had wild nights and early mornings. Swam the harbor as often as I can. Found quiet places amidst the chaos. It’s become a respite and a home away from home for me.

I always say Ptown is a choose your own adventure place. This week was no exception.

Some highlights were exploring w/ Miami friends @patricklouisart + @dave.conrad1 as we brought @neonreefdoc to a sold-out screening w/ @ptownfilm (thank you @annehubbell!), celebrating Carnival with the crew and their host @itstherabbit, kiki-ing w/ friend + Neon Reef producer @lowell.bagley, running into Shelter Island neighbors @lc10022 + @agucci22, and seeing new @a24 flick TONY on its home turf w/ amigo @davidhatkoff at the Water’s Edge 🍿. I’m also grateful to my always-gracious hosts at @crewsquartersptown ⚓️.

Thank you Ptown for a wonderful time. I can’t wait to be back again soon. 💛🌈

With @neonreefdoc we did something I hadn’t seen before: we made the nature documentary sexy. But honestly, that wasn’t hard. In South Beach, even saving the planet is sexy.

More than that, making Neon Reef surprised me every step of the way. I was able to process complex emotions about a city that had been the site of so many ups and downs in my life, while inadvertently composing a neon-soaked love letter to it.

I spent more time with my friends Patrick and Dave than I ever had and got to know them much more intimately in the process of making the film. I think the biggest void I felt after premiering the film at @miamifilm was the few days when the three of us didn’t *have* to text each other.

And, I got to build new friendships and deepen others. A few that come to mind are @kevhwong @louisaguirre @lowell.bagley @commissionertanyakatzoffbhatt @chrisjur @e_schleicher @_blakepruitt_ @aquamjerle and so many more wonderful people who worked with us to bring this story to the screen. Stay tuned, we’ll be thanking all of you very soon!

August 21 we take the show on the road. Patrick, Dave, Lowell, and I will present Neon Reef to its first out of state audience in Provincetown, MA 🌈 during the city’s Deep Sea Disco-themed Carnival Week, courtesy of @ptownfilm.

Free tickets are at the link in my bio. I hope you’ll be there to experience the reef with us. If not, please share with a friend who’ll be in Ptown (we all know at least one!)

💛 to all of you, and see you in Ptown!
