With a few days between us and Trash Baby’s final festival screening, I can’t stop thinking about how lucky we are that this little indie got to live such a big life on the festival circuit.

After the script was named an Academy Nicholl semi-finalist, Trash Baby went on to celebrate its world premiere at SXSW, and from there built up a festival rap sheet that was bigger and badder than we ever could have dreamed.

After taking home an Industry Choice Award, Audience Choice Award, Best Actress Award, and four Best Narrative Feature wins, getting to finish our festival run in my hometown where it all began, with three back-to-back sold-out shows at the very theater where I first fell in love with cinema as a child… Felt poetically perfect.

And as if that wasn’t enough, to walk away from our last festival with a fifth and final Best Narrative Feature win… I don’t know if I’ll ever have the words for that.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you to everyone who made this experience what it was. Thank you to the cast and crew who rallied behind Trash Baby when it was still just a delusional dream, and to everyone who took a chance on a trailer park kid with no money or name that could easily have been written off as a bad bet.

Thank you to everyone who watched it, programmed it, championed it, bought a ticket, wrote a review, or cheered for us along the way. A supportive community is the only way indie films happen anymore, and we really fucking did that.

Today is Fayte’s 32nd bday. I can’t believe how fast time has flown by, but in the moment, she always seems to have the power to slow it down. In case you can’t tell, I LOVE MY WIFE. @itsyourf8

Thanks for the wild ride, Austin…❤️‍🔥

What a gift it was reuniting with my second family and seeing a film we poured our blood, sweat and tears into shared on a world’s stage at @sxsw. There are no words to describe the joy and pride I’ve felt this past week from this experience. Still pinching myself 🥲

wow. just wow.

i got to spend the week in austin with some of my favorite people celebrating art we made together. we showed up in spaces ive only dreamed of, and trust me when I say this is only the beginning. i honestly have no words for the profound impact @trashbabyfilm has had on my life and on the lives of everyone who’s been so lucky to cross paths. the amount of positive feedback we received while at sxsw was just a confirmation of what we all knew while making it. this film is something special. we could feel it in the air two years ago in a hot gravel lot, and we could feel it in every room we came together in here. these people, these places, this movie. words cannot describe the adoration and gratitude i hold for all of it. the world needs this movie right now. something so familiar yet new. something so heartbreaking yet inspiring. jacy you wrote a masterpiece and it was just so easy (and so incredibly difficult) to run with it. i know theres still much work to be done, but god damn to live a life making art like this has always been the dream. i love these people so much. i love this movie so much. i know all of you are going to love it all just as much as we do. there will never be enough words strung together in the right way to truly describe the magic this holds. these people are family, this movie is a bright light in our currently dim future. its hope, its heartbreak, its love, its hatred, its being stuck, and then being so incredibly free. and damn it really did just taste that much sweeter when we proved them wrong.
