POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
@shopwasteland decided my voice needed to enter the chat on this first Monday in May. The gravity of what I do feeling ever heightened by the second, by each article, and video dissecting Black Dandyism. There’s not a day that goes by that I gasp in awe at what I get to do. There are hard days where I don’t see what’s in front of me but I know I’m guided to do this work.
I have been on a personal journey of discovery my whole life, and I always thought it was this physical thing. The last 5 years I think people have really seen me evolve. But my favorite compliments have been in the last 6 months. @nonjamckenzie told me she sees my ancestors on me. It made me cry. Because like @andreltalley I was raised by my great-grandmother. I cried when I read the stories of ironed boxers and the simple elegance of ritual. The same love that has carried me here today. So as always I give my flowers to black women on this day because I’m truly nothing without you.
To the team at @shopwasteland, @missinglewood and @brokegay, thank you highlighting this fat, black boy from Compton.
To my collaborators on my 35 Years of Fashion collection, @_asha_grant, @thecurlyvshow, @originaljayp, and @don_rickardo_, featured in the @shopwasteland article my heartfelt thanks for being in my life and helping express that moment in time. To @allseeinghuman who photographed the collection and some of my best photos to date, thank you. @missinglewood took my portraits for the collection which is also featured here, capturing me at peak Alden in vintage, and designer, with a little fast fashion sprinkled in.
