Photo dump of this last school year + summer so far!!

I realized I hadn’t posted a year recap since… freshman year, and seeing how I’m about to become a senior I thought this was appropriate.

(Okay now prepare for the yap session)
First of all, I want to say thank you to everyone I know and love. You help me become the person I want to be 🫶.
Now, the main point of this post is to explain one of my biggest challenges and lessons this last chapter has taught me, and to share it with you. That being, the importance of friends, family, and loved ones.

It may be silly to say, but I think I haven’t felt true, deep connection with people for quite a while. Because how can one become close to others when they don’t even understand themselves? And, since my last recap post, I’ve been learning about myself, about who I am, who I want to be, what my values are, and how to value myself. And because of that, I have been able to seek friendships that brought out the best in me, and brought out the person that I TRULY am.
The amount of times I’ve said to someone, “be yourself, and if people leave you because of it, then they were never real friends in the first place. So just be yourself and find people who like you for you.” within this last little bit is CRAZY! Because I myself have only just figured this out. But it really is true.
Friendships have to be built on truth and love, not love for an idea of you but love for who you truly are.

That in itself is a hard pill to swallow. But I honestly think it’s been one of the most impactful realizations I’ve ever had.
Why drag myself down just to keep a friend?
Why change who I am just to be accepted?
Why pretend to be less of myself just to please others?

I’m not saying it isn’t hard to just… stop conforming, I’ve had plenty of moments where I’m being myself, and those around me judge me because I was so carefree or so silly or random. But, taking the moment to realize that their opinions of me TRULY do not matter in the grand scheme of things, and just saying, “so what?” To their remarks, is completely freeing.

(Running out of characters so will resume in the next post)

One last home lap around the track for this unforgettable crew 💫 From wide-eyed freshmen to fierce seniors, we’ve watched you grow, grind, and break records. These are more than just top times — they’re moments, memories, and milestones. You’ve left your mark on this track and on all of us. We love you and we’re so proud. 🫶 #SeniorNight #OneLastLap #ForeverFamily #TrackFam #pantherpride #tracknation

Ok second and last of the end of the school year wrap up!

This year, out of all the lessons I’ve learned, this particular one stood out the most. That I shouldn’t be ashamed or embarrassed of who I used to be, and who I am now.

When people used to ask me about literally any year of my life in the past, the only things I could say about who I used to be, were negative. But, I’ve realized now that the only reason I am who I am now, and the only reason I have such wonderful and loving people surrounding me is because of the old me, the relationships she built, and the type of person she was.

Over the years, I lost sight of the little, silly, carefree, and abundantly kind person I was as a child, and it was overshadowed by caring what others thought about me. I never used to think about my double chin in pictures, or a silly smile, I was just being who I was, and people loved me for it. Slowly, I’ve been getting back to that. Embracing all my goofy sides and realizing that people do genuinely enjoy being my friend, and the more that I act like myself, the more I feel open and happy with those around me.

I’ve also come to appreciate the struggle i went through in the past multiple years… Thinking about my lowest points in life is very hard for me, and I usually just separate that “Selma” from who I am now, as almost an entirely different person. But I am only here now, writing this post, and sharing my life with my friends and loved ones because “that Selma” decided to keep trying to better herself and see where life took her, even if it wasn’t always good or happy. And now, I get to see my future, and who I turn out to be. I get to try to live out my dreams, and impact the world in whatever (positive) way I can.

In the wise words of Billie Eilish and Laufey:
“But the old me is still me and maybe the real me, and I think she’s pretty.”
“I wish I could go back and give her a squeeze, myself at 13, and just let her know, know that she’s beautiful.”

So special thank you to little me, who was unapologetically herself, and is teaching me to be that way as-well. And who pushed through so much, just to give future me a chance. I will make her proud 🫶

Long awaited (forgotten) end of the school year post!
(Pt1)

Thank you sm to all the people who made this year so wonderful! I’ve made so many priceless memories and amazing friends 🫶 I’ve also learned plenty of hard lessons, and although this year hasn’t really been all nice and happy, it has definitely been a year of growth, learning, and determination! The downs of this year make me feel motivated to do better next year, and the ups make me remember how lovely life truly is.

If younger me could see where I am now, how far I’ve gotten, and how much I’ve grown (both physically, mentally, and emotionally) she wouldn’t believe it. It’s encouraging to think of how much I’ve improved from only last school year to now. Even though at times it can be discouraging and can feel like I haven’t gotten any better.

You never know where life is going to take you, and it WILL get better even if it doesn’t feel like it. So I encourage anyone who is struggling to keep pushing and trying their best, because life can be so so so beautiful. You just have to look a little closer.

I’m so grateful for everyone in my life this past school year, my coaches, friends, family, teachers, and classmates 🫶 you all make me remember how much of a blessing life is.

Love yall. (Now I’m done yapping, thanks for coming to my TEDtalk.)
