Another fantastic Mexic-Arte Cinco de Mayo Luncheon today and gathering of downtown businesses and community stakeholders to celebrate, promote, and learn about the Mexic-Arte Museum, the Cinco de Mayo victory, the French Influence, the 5th Street Mexican American Heritage Corridor and District and Austin’s Mexican American Legacy Families. And today’s Keynote Speaker Dr. Raul Ramos an Associate Professor and Director of Graduate Studies with the History Department for the University of Houston and Center for Arts and Humanities reminded us of the importance of remembering our history and ancestry that influenced the birth of Texas and America.

Last year we celebrated the ribbon cutting and creation of Austin’s Mexican American Heritage Corridor District that spans along 5th Street from Republic Square Park or Chili Park to Plaza Saltillo in the heart of historic East Austin and the Mexican American barrio. This corridor is a living testament to the enduring legacy and contributions of Mexican Americans to Austin’s history, culture, and identity.

The Austin Mexican American Legacy Families to date include:

• Gonzales Arriaga Family
• Limon Family
• Zamarripa Family
• Quintanilla Family
• Pacheco Family
• Saldaña Family
• Velásquez Family

I’m proud to serve as President of the Mexic-Arte Museum Board of Directors and be part of an organization that remains committed to enriching the community through education programs, exhibitions, and the collection, preservation, and interpretation of Mexican, Latino, and Latin American art and culture.

Saldaña Public Relations was also proud to serve as a sponsor for today’s luncheon and celebration!

¡Feliz Cinco de Mayo! ¡Que Viva México! 164 years ago the Mexican Army despite being outnumbered, defeated the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla, on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of General Ignacio Zaragoza! ¡Qué Viva! 🇲🇽
