Last week, we hosted our annual AOSA Student Equipment Networking Fair, proudly sponsored by the Indiana Optometric Association (IOA)!

This event provided a wonderful opportunity for our OD students to connect with vendors and sponsors, explore the latest advancements in optometric equipment and technology, and network with practicing optometrists.

During the event, two of our second-year AOSA members, Frances Miller and Ashleigh Rathbun, were recognized by the IOA for their outstanding achievements in academics, service, and leadership. Congratulations to you both on this well-deserved recognition! 🎉

A special thank you to the IOA, our vendors, sponsors, and practicing optometrists for making this event such a success!

Happy World Sight Day! Join SVOSH at IUSO in celebrating the mission of giving the gift of sight to those in need! 👁️🌎

Each year, the nonprofit organization Optometry Giving Sight uses this day to raise support and awareness for the 1.1 billion people around the world living with visual impairment.

Optometry Giving Sight supports sustainable eye care projects that train doctors, establish vision centers, and provide accessible eye care across 70 countries. Our SVOSH chapter is proud to directly support two of these projects by providing free exams and vision correction through SeeBetterLearnBetter and Special Olympics.
We are grateful to be part of these projects and are committed to serving our local and global communities, not only when we become doctors, but starting right now!

Interested in learning more or supporting this mission? Visit the OGS link in our bio to learn more! 👀✨

It’s not just sight - it’s an entire future. Othniel first received glasses in Grade 1 through the See Better Learn Better program in Jamaica. Now in Grade 5, he has received a comprehensive eye exam and updated glasses every year for the past five years. See Better Learn Better, who we work / serve / travel with as IU students and optometrists, is partially funded by Optometry Giving Sight. We have received generous grants from this amazing organization for the past 5 years (and counting!). The funds go directly towards our trips abroad, helping us to continue to bring vision to those who need it most across the world.
THIS is the power of sustainable vision care. It’s not about providing care once and walking away. It’s about building systems that allow children like Othniel to access the care they need year after year, and building friendships and relationships that are indefinitely impactful.
By supporting Optometry Giving Sight this World Sight Day, IU SVOSH is helping invest in sustainable programs that create lasting change. We encourage you to check out OGS and if you feel lead to do so, donate! We can’t wait to return to Jamaica with See Better Learn Better in just a few short weeks, and we REALLY can’t wait to make an impact in the eyes (& lives) of our patients. The world is waiting 🌎 #WSDC2026 #theworldiswaiting #sustainablevisioncare @optometrygivingsight @seebetterlearnbetter

Our former undergrad researcher, @francesmillerrr, stopped by to visit us yesterday! She may have traded pipettes for eyeballs at @iu_optometry, but we’ll always claim her as one of ours. 🥹

Keep making us proud, Fran! 🥼🔎👁️🤍
