We are adding reinforcements! Please Welcome Coach Ivan Contreras – Assistant Coach, MVC 16 Select

Ivan brings a proven winning background and firsthand experience of what it takes to compete at a high level. As a four-year varsity starter, AAU National Champion, national qualifier winner, and All-Tournament Team selection, he understands the consistency, preparation, and team commitment needed to succeed both in high school and club volleyball.

The quest for another national title ends here for MVC 18 Black, but what a journey it has been. From Regionals to Nationals, these boys gave everything they had every single match. While this chapter closes, they leave with their heads held high as AAU National Champions—a title no one can ever take away.

Proud to have followed this incredible team all season. The season may be over, but the legacy they've built will last far beyond the final whistle. #usav #bjnc

Sharing some of my favorite moments from Momentum 18 Black's battle against A5 from Atlanta. Looking back at these photos, I'm reminded that championships aren't won by talent alone—they're earned through every hustle, every dive, every point fought for, and every teammate who refused to give up.

Most of these players stood on that same championship court last year and experienced the heartbreak of falling just short of the national title. This year, they came back with unfinished business, and what a redemption story it turned out to be.

Watching them finally lift that championship trophy was something I'll never forget. I'm incredibly proud of this team and honored to have captured a journey that will forever be part of their story. Congratulations, Momentum 18 Black. AAU Elite 18s National Champions at last. 🏆#aauvolleyball

Libero work rarely makes the highlight reel, but it's the foundation of everything. @ivan_c8726 is the heartbeat of MVC 18 Black's defense—making clean passes, laying out for impossible digs, and covering what feels like every inch of the court.

His relentless effort gives his teammates the confidence to attack, and his defense has been on another level. The backbone of the team. #aauvolleyball

What a ride. This team was a force to be reckoned with all year long. Definitely not the ending we hoped for but these guys have so much to be proud of. Multiple program records, region champs, top 4 finish, and so on. The body of work throughout the season is one to be remembered. Along with that, these guys overcame a lot of adversity and grew so much as players and young men. They represented their school, community, and themselves very well and we couldn’t be more proud of them for that. Great run and great season boys.

I wish we could’ve spent more time together.

I never thought going into high school that I would ever give a sport a try. I was afraid of trying new things, of getting out of my comfort zone. My family pushed me to try something new while I was still young.

I’m insanely glad I decided to choose this sport. This group of people. They had all grown up together. When I tried out my sophomore year I had no idea what the rules of the sport were or how to play at all. To them I was a complete stranger. I looked up to all of them. Most of them had been playing the sport since their freshman year and some even before that. I’m super proud to be able to say that I shared my time here with such talented and passionate people. They welcomed me into their community. They taught me things I wish to never forget.

When I was finally starting to feel like I belonged. When I felt like I was truly getting to know everyone. Everything suddenly ended. The time I spent with this group was short. But it’s something I’ll forever cherish and bring with me.

Thank you so much Coach Mays, Julio Garcia, Chance Lagoni, Colton Working, Sabastyn Wade, Jaydon Harvey, Conner Forsberg, Cuen Griffin, Ivan Contreras, Cristian Sanchez, Payten Watson, Jayden Trubl, Aidan Kelly, Whestly Stuart
and everyone who made my experience at ironwood memorable.
Thank you for allowing me to be apart of something bigger than myself.

I owe so much to this program and i’m so grateful for everything that it’s brought me, my closest friends and people i consider family all started here and i really wouldn’t rather have done it with anyone else, this sport means so much to me and im happy with what we’ve accomplished this year even knowing it could have been more, but we broke records and did things no other team has achieved before and i love the guys i was playing with so much. Thank you to everyone who’s helped me on this journey.
