BACKSTAGE & BLACK EP 4

Cast Convos are in session🗣️🤔 I asked them ‘who was the first black performer who made you think, yeah I can do this’ and here’s what they said🫂🫶🏾

@alexiakhadime
@cacostaofficial
@kenrickh2osandy
@alvinailey

It’s so important to see people who look like you on stage because sometimes that’s the very moment you realise whats possible for you too.

Sometimes thats how dreams begin, an idea is planted, a little bit of belief is sparked and something that once felt out of reach starts to feel possible.

I hope and pray that we continue to see more black performers taking up space inspiring the next generation and showing them just how far they can go🖤

Who was that performer for you? 🥹👇🏾

BACKSTAGE & BLACK EP 3

Behind every creative is someone who inspired them along the way. For this episode, I asked some of my Sylvia castmates to name one black creative or artist who inspires them and the answers were too good not to share! @leahhill_dancer struggled as there are simply soo many, what a beautiful struggle: on that note I must not miss off @tino_naledi & @ebonyclarkee on Leah’s behalf🫶🏾

From theatre legends to musicians, writers and changemakers, there’s so much black excellence to celebrate, both past and present.

So let’s keep giving people their flowers! 💐

Sylvia- A Musical Revolution
I went to see sylvia at the Birmingham Hippodrome and here are my thoughts! Watching Sylvia as a teenage girl was such a powerful experience. It was incredible to see the fight for women's rights and votes brought to life on stage and I have never been so interested in a history lesson before!!
The whole cast were absolutely amazing and made such an impact on the entire show. Solomon Davy @solomondavy (who is one of my favourite performers anyway!!) was incredible and brought so much talent and energy to the stage. Ivano Turco @ivanoturco was also amazing after waiting to see him perform after so long but Beverley Knight @beverleyknight was on another level! Her vocals were unbelievable and her acting was so powerful that you couldn't help but be drawn into every moment.

As a teenage girl, I found it genuinely inspiring as well as entertaining. At some points I didn't know whether to laugh, cry or dance!!!
I would recommend this musical to all teens
because you learn so much about being so powerful while being entertained by some of the most amazing songs and dances!!
5 Stars- ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

I thought I would slide cheerily back into real life after my holiday, have a relaxing week, avoid theatre…NOT! And I was technically the plus one this time!

Anyway, the joy of this is that it’s something I wouldn’t usually have picked to go to myself, and after a fancy (and very delicious!) lunch at the Circle Bar, we headed in to see Sylvia!

If you think musicals are always light and frothy affairs, this one will prove you wrong! An excellent insight into the Suffragette movement from one of the lesser-discussed Pankhursts.
