In the same mood, we are elated to announce that the Mooting Society UNILAG has also won the 2025 National Data Protection Moot!

Supported by Meta, the National Data Protection Moot Court Competition is an initiative of UNILAG's Incomparable Faculty of Law researchers aimed at promoting a compliance-ready data protection framework in Nigeria. It enhances an understanding of privacy and data protection laws while fostering engagement between law students and professionals through research, advocacy, and knowledge exchange.

We were ably represented by the team of Esther Nnadozie and Ayotunde Abiodun over 4 rounds.

The finals took place last week and the Mooting Society emerged as the winner! The team won the Masters of the Moot award alongside the Best Memorials award. Esther Nnadozie also won the Distinguished Advocate award.

A huge thank you to Mubarak Dosunmu Agboola, Maxwell Igweogu, and Joshua Adeyeye. Their guidance helped us with the intricacies and that was very instrumental in our win.

Congratulations to our champions for upholding the culture of excellence!

The Mooting Society’s Year in Session: Closed for the year, but the memories remain💪🏽🚀

This day, three weeks ago, we wrapped up activities for the academic session with our final meeting.

We had a packed day starting with the Internal Mock Trial competition which was presided by Judge Adeniyi Pokanu of the Lagos State Judiciary, Ikorodu, then our award ceremony to celebrate distinguished members of the society and our hand over to the exceutives of the new administration.

The internal mock trial competition this year had the society split up into four houses: Specter, Blackburn, Denning, and Keating.

House Specter represented by Chiugo Okpalanedu and Demilade Durojaiye was the prosecution in the rape case titled He Said, She Said and House Blackburn represented by Mark Ijuoh-David and Kamsi Nwokoro was the defence.

House Denning represented by Daniel Falodun and Esther Nnadozie had the burden of proving that both Dwight, represented by House Keating’s Clement Ojo, and Jim, represented by Mubarak Adeyerie and Maryam Azeez, were responsible for Michael’s death in the murder case The Office.

It was a memorable competition as all counsels battled for supremacy.

We specially thank Judge Adeniyi Pokanu for honouring our invitation to preside over the cases and educate us on a couple of loop holes in the presentations.

We acknowledge our Dean, Professor Abiola Sanni for ensuring that our event went on smoothly.

And to our ever present and reliable staff adviser, Dr Issa Adedokun, we cannot thank you enough for all that you do for the society.

This is not our final goodbye but a gateway to show everyone the splendid work performed throughout the year.

Birthdays come with many things and one of those things is reflection on the past year. Looking back on the past year, I’m so grateful for the amazing people I’ve met, for the lessons I’ve learned and for God’s lavish love. Looking forward I’m excited to blossom in this next phase of my life and to be intentional about living purposefully. I’m quicker, stronger and better!
