2025 ANIMATION CHALLENGE!!

This is a fun one, we asked people to make an animated loop whoch started and ended with the shape of a circle. Here are the results!

We are so excited to share the beautiful animated submissions from our last animation challenge for our joint event with @zinezilla_bristol. The challenge was to bring one of our mascots to life, with the first and last frame as a circle. It was great fun sharing these at the festival and at our most recent animation night!

Here they are:

@hit.clouds
Tara creates Head in the Clouds, exploring art through cloud-based perspectives. Uncle Mayhem slips in and out of the sky, his unicycle days aren’t over. 2D animation in Procreate.

@pilicoco092
Jiwon used a black hole as inspiration to show the gravitational pull between Uncle Mayhem and his unicycle.

@l.c.woods04
Lucy Watson is a Bristol animation student who made this in Rough Animator on an iPad in about 5 hours.

@between.the.bones
erry Howlett is a multi-media animator who imagined Uncle Mayhem bathing and shapeshifting with his unicycle. She hand-drew the frames digitally in TV Paint.

@tommyhowl & @franci.greeni
Tommy is a director/animator inspired by the wild charm of children’s drawings.
Francesca Verda is a Bristol-based 2D animator specialising in traditional and cut-out techniques with bold storytelling.

@iwan_animation
Iwan works in 2D and motion graphics and joined after being inspired by Kong’s design.

@rowanimations
Rowan is a CG artist who made this animation in under 12 hours.

@0f_her
Levi made this rough animation in Toonsquid at 12 fps.

@franimation_
Francesca is a stop-motion animator who created Kong using paper cut-out elements mixed with clay features.

@nevmac_
Niamh is a stop-motion animator/model maker whose plasticine, multi-plane animation brings Kong to life.

@hannahbattershellartist
Hannah Battershell is a Bristol-based artist known for detailed paper landscapes, now teaching herself stop-motion using tiny hand-cut pieces and a DSLR.

And congrats to @nevmac_ for winning Best Animation Challenge!

WE’RE STILL ACCEPTING SUBMISSIONS FOR OUR UNICYCLE MAYHEM ANIMATION CHALLENGE!
Look at this crazy one by @iwan_animation full of mind bending morphs!

‘Hi I’m Iwan, I’m an animator currently working at Blue Zoo.

I specialize in 2d rigged character animation; primarily, I work in Toon Boom and have mostly done series work.

This animation was made in TV Paint as I wanted to get back into doing more frame by frame animation, so this challenge was a great reason to pick up the stylus again.’

Give them a follow to see more of their stuff!

Wiff Waff 2🏓

We've dropped our second installment of our community challenge Wiff Waff. We reached out to our animation community and asked people to animate one second, 25 frames of a table tennis rally. And this is the very entertaining result.

All creators are tagged in their submissions so give them a follow if you love their work.

The saying goes that if you do what you love, you never work a day in your life.

Obviously complete babbling nonsense coined by someone with no comprehension of the average television series production pipeline.

But if you're lucky enough to be surrounded by brilliant people it makes the work something to look forward to every day.

Cheers and restrained sentimentality to a superb team whose collective attitude and work ethic is second to none. I came onto this gig during a bit of a low moment and y'all helped lift me out of it.

Here's hoping our paths all cross again soon

Another incredible Bristol Animation Meetup last night!

Thanks so much to everyone who came out (some having travelled very impressive distances) and making it such a fantastic evening. Much gratitude also to our pals and BAM comrades @rumpusanimation and @sunandmoon_animation, not to mention our industry professionals @upstartthunder (@aardmananimations) @louisdoodles (Sun & Moon) @joannahepworth (@aproductionsuk) & Stef Bowskill (Rumpus) who took the time to speak with the eventgoers in our one-on-one sessions, as well as the absolute ledge that is @itsgraceharris for her superb organisation and timekeeping. It ran like clockwork!

It's been fantastic hearing everyone's feedback and developing BAM a little more with each event. Watch this space as we have exciting plans ahead!

Just been out to Bute Park today to catch up with my friends at uni. It was definitely gratifying to see them all again. Had a good laugh and everything and even played a game of Drawsome People, where I mashed up Smurfette and Dr. Zoidberg from Futurama. Anyway, I just want to thank everyone for a fantastic catch-up today.

My lil uni Among Us group! A doodle I've been working on when I really should have been sleeping... It's a bit messy round the edges (am I talking about the drawing or murdering your friends in game, you decide) but enjoy my chaotic friends!

100% inspired by @nina17_09_ her art is incredible, I'm such a simp so please go give her work some love!!!

(Random tidbit I had to share, just watched my lecturer go skip diving to get me some table legs!!! I've never been more in awe and confused at his speed, it was a pretty big skip?! I blinked and he was in, pure legend, we stan xx)
