Last but certainly not least…our 18th and final incoming Bluejay of this year’s class is a man who may not need an introduction. Please welcome Mr. Aiden Cohen to the Elmhurst wrestling family! Aiden comes to us from Harper Community College in Palatine, Illinois, home of the Hawks and one of the consistently top NJCAA wrestling programs and coaching staffs in the country. While at Harper, Aiden was coached by National Wrestling Hall of Fame Head Coach Dan Loprieno and Coach Justin Selby. Before Harper, Aiden put together an impressive career at Deerfield High School in Deerfield, Illinois where he wrestled for the Warriors under Coach Aaron Cohen. And if the Cohen name sounds familiar…well, that’s because it is! Aiden also trains at the renowned Cohen Brothers Judo & Wrestling Club in Vernon Hills, Illinois under Coach RJ Cohen. Between Aaron, RJ, and Aiden, there’s certainly no shortage of Cohens in this wrestling story! Aiden brings an impressive list of accomplishments to the Bluejay program. At Harper, he was: * NJCAA All-American * 2x NJCAA National Championship Qualifier * NJCAA Great Lakes District Champion Before becoming a Hawk, Aiden was a standout at Deerfield where he was: * 3x All-State * 3x State Qualifier * Helped Deerfield earn two IHSA Dual Team State Championship berths * 1x IHSA Dual Team State Runner-Up * Team Illinois Fargo Member But wrestling isn’t the only combat sport where Aiden has made his mark. Aiden is also a Judo World Team Member, bringing a unique skill set and plenty of experience to the Bluejay room. At Elmhurst, Aiden will pursue a degree in Sports Management while continuing his wrestling career at the next level. Aiden, welcome to Elmhurst! We’re excited to have you in the nest and can’t wait to see what you accomplish in Blue and White. And to the Cohen family…we’re pretty sure we’ve met enough of you by now! #flyjaysfly

If there’s one word that sums up our next incoming Bluejay, it might be SUPERHERO. Please welcome Marc Tchapda to the Elmhurst wrestling family! Marc joins us from Glenbard West High School in Glen Ellyn, where he wrestled for Coach Pat McCluskey. He also sharpened his skills at Izzy Style Wrestling this past off-season. Marc will also join fellow Glenbard West teammate Vince Tortoriello, as the second Hilltopper in this incoming class, as well as reuniting with sophomore Bluejay Ulises Rosas. Marc put together a great run this past season at Glenbard where he was: * IHSA State Qualifier * Regional Champion But wrestling is just one part of what makes Marc such an exciting addition. A true multi-sport athlete, Marc will also be competing for the Elmhurst football team. And like any good superhero, Marc has more than just physical powers. He brings an impressive academic résumé to Elmhurst as well. While pursuing a degree in Biomedical Science in our PULSE Gold Medal Biological Sciences department, he plans to eventually become a Veterinarian. He even trains dogs in his spare time! Marc, welcome to Elmhurst! We’re excited to have a superhero in the nest! Now let’s find him a cape! #flyjaysfly

Next up in our incoming class is Marine PFC Matthew Medina, and his journey to Elmhurst has already been an incredible one! Matt comes to us from the wrestling powerhouse St. Charles East High School, St. Charles, Illinois home of the Fighting Saints. He was coached by IWCOA Hall of Fame Head Coach Jason Potter and Illinois wrestling legend Joe Barczak. On the mat, Matt was a: * IHSA State Qualifier * Team Illinois Fargo Member * Contributor to two IHSA Dual Team State Trophy-winning teams But perhaps Matt’s most impressive accomplishment came after his high school wrestling career. A heavyweight on the mat, Matt made a tremendous physical transformation to meet the demands of U.S. Marine Corps recruit training…and he recently graduated from Marine Corps boot camp as a member of the Marine Corps Reserves. Earning the title of Marine is no small accomplishment, and we couldn’t be more proud to welcome him to Elmhurst. We have tremendous appreciation for our veterans and active-duty military members, and Matt now joins the many Elmhurst wrestling alumni who have proudly served our country. We are grateful for their service and the example they set for those who follow! Matt plans to major in Criminal Justice at Elmhurst. Given that he’s already spent time learning how to follow orders, maintain discipline, and survive an extremely demanding boot camp we’re thinking he’s got a pretty good head start on the major! Welcome to the Bluejay Family, PFC Matthew Medina! We’re proud to have you representing Elmhurst, and we can’t wait to see what’s ahead. #flyjaysfly

We’re doubling down and ready to introduce ANOTHER incoming wrestler from the Bulldogs of Grant High School! Meet Mr. Matthew Longabaugh! We know Matt is cool because he plays guitar AND knows Larry Quirk, the guy who nearly broke our wrestling Instagram by becoming the most liked post ever on our account in the last 24 hours. Is Larry more interesting than Chuck Norris? He just may be. Matt claims he’s a better dodgeball player, but the jury is still out on who is Top Bulldog. Coach Jolcover, feel free to weigh in again in the comments. As mentioned, Matt comes to us from Grant High School in Fox Lake, Illinois, where he was coached by Mark Jolcover, Anthony Johnson, and John Deneen. He also trained with Fox Lake Wrestling Club under Coach Sean Quirk. Matt’s accolades: * 2x IHSA Sectional Qualifier * 3x All-Conference * IHSA Regional Champ * 3 Sport Athlete Matthew has his sights set on becoming a high school teacher and will pursue his teaching degree through our nationally recognized School of Education. So yes, he likes numbers! Even better, Larry will be reuniting with former Grant teammate and current sophomore Sammy Mendez here at Elmhurst! Fun Fact: Although his Grant teammates were not officially polled, Larry claims to be the winningest Grant wrestling dodgeball player during his time there. Coach Jolcover, feel free to confirm or challenge that claim in the comments. One thing we do know: Larry is bringing a strong work ethic, a competitive mindset, and apparently an elite dodgeball win rate to the Bluejays. Welcome to the Bluejay Family, Larry Quirk!
