How strong are NFL players?! 🤯🏈

With the San Francisco 49ers in Melbourne taking on the LA Rams at the MCG,we asked former 49ers NFL player Ian Williams how much he could bench during his playing days.

His best? 465 lbs (211 kg)💪

But then Ian tells us about former 49ers teammate **Isaac Sopoaga, who he says got up to around 600 lbs (272 kg)😳

Safe to say NFL strength is on another level 😂

Great to catch Ian while he’s here in Melbourne and hear some stories from his time with the San Francisco 49ers🏈🇺🇸🇦🇺

How good was this moment in Melbourne! ❤️💛

Former 49er Ian Williams is getting Stu’s kids, from Tauranga, involved and leading the chants at the @transport_hotel

Moments like this are what made Melbourne so special for the Faithful. Young and old!

NINERS! NINERS!

When a former professional rugby player meets former professional NFL players… there’s plenty to talk about!

Some great photos from Melbourne week shared by Niner Empire New Zealand member and longtime 49ers Faithful, Tanner Vili.

Many will know Tanner from his rugby days. A former @manu.samoa international, Tanner represented Samoa at the 1999 and 2003 Rugby World Cups, played Super Rugby for the Hurricanes, and represented the Pacific Islanders and NZ Barbarians. He also played American football in Auckland for the @metrolionsamericanfootballclub , so his love for the gridiron goes back a long way.

Tanner had an incredible week in Melbourne, meeting Faithful from around the world and having one of those right-place-at-the-right-time moments at the 49ers team hotel.

He got to meet and spend time with Coach Kyle Shanahan, Jesse and Lisa Sapolu, Doc Mattox and his wife, George Kittle, Nick Bosa, Christian McCaffrey, Jerry Rice, Mike Evans, and other members of the 49ers staff.

As Tanner said himself, he couldn’t believe their luck; they all happened to be hanging out around the hotel café at the same time!

Still on a high from the trip, with plenty of new friendships and memories made along the way.

Thanks for sharing your Melbourne week with us, Tanner! ❤️💛

One highlight of Melbourne was meeting former 49er, Ian Williams. 🙌🏽❤️💛

After getting home, I went through the 49ersrewind collection and found some clips of Ian doing his thing in the middle of that 49ers defensive line.

Pretty cool to watch this old footage again after getting the chance to meet him and chat in Melbourne.

👈🏽 Slide left for some Ian Williams highlights, photos with me (from the 49ers socials) and my brother, and a video of our interaction.

From a scouting perspective, Ian Williams was a powerful interior defender whose game was built around leverage, strength, hand usage, gap discipline and run defense

At @NDFootball, his low center of gravity and strong base allowed him to anchor against double teams, control blockers and keep linebackers clean

Williams showed a strong initial punch, good block recognition and the ability to separate and shed once he located the football. He wasn’t a high-end interior pass rusher, but he had enough power and initial quickness to collapse the pocket and provide value on early downs

He finished his Notre Dame career with approximately 162 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks and two interceptions

2011 Pre-Draft Measurements & Times:

Height: 6’1¼”
Weight: 319 lbs
Arms: 32”
Hands: 9½”
40-Yard Dash: 5.14
Bench: 31 reps
Vertical: 28.5”
Broad: 8’2”
Short Shuttle: 4.78
3 Cone: 7.75

Williams went undrafted in 2011 but developed into a starting nose tackle for the @49ers

His leverage, anchor strength and ability to control the point of attack translated directly to the NFL

By 2015, he started all 16 games and was credited by PFF with 37 run stops, tied for third in the NFL

Williams is a good example of why nose tackle evaluation goes beyond sacks. His value came from controlling space, maintaining gap integrity and consistently making life easier for the defense around him

🏈 What a way to complete Daniel’s NFL wish!

After meeting the San Francisco @49ers players yesterday, 16-year-old Daniel and his family were given an exclusive game-day experience, heading onto the field to watch the team warm up ahead of the big game.

49ers legends including Ian Williams, Patrick Willis and Jerry Rice stopped by to spend time with Dan, while some familiar faces from yesterday’s meet and greet made sure to come over and say hello again. ❤️💛

An unforgettable couple of days for Dan and his family, and one very special NFL wish. ⭐
