$The end of my first day of critical service making rounds with my colleagues and learning my way around the hospital - @nyuwinthrophospital -where I first trained in critical care 26 years ago. I disinfect everything I touch. I shower as soon as I enter the home. I wash all my clothes immediately in high temperature. I have seen many gravely ill patients receiving outstanding care from my tireless colleagues at every rank and discipline. This is a VERY serious illness. The social distancing and quarantine New Yorkers are engaging in and the President may ask to extend are so warranted. I have been caring for the critically ill since my first year of internship in New York City in 1992. The sheer amount of patients , the severity of their disease and the refractory nature of the Covid 19 infection impacting the critically ill at the epicenter of America’s introduction to the Covid Pandemic is breathtaking even for a clinician as seasoned as me- 16 years of critical care medicine ( including ten as a consultant intensivist) on three continents. Today I ran into colleagues who had trained me in the 1990s and we all remarked on the unprecedented nature of this disease. We WILL prevail but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do your part in protecting yourself and others through your efforts. And Thankyou to @nyuwinthrophospital and @nyulangone for all the Personal Protective Equipment for all of us all day to keep us safe #covid #covıd19 @independentwomensforum @iwvoice$
