POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

I’m happy to share two updates from Dance Context Journal, where I serve on the Editorial Board.

The 2026 issue, Politics in Dance, has just been published. It brings together contributions examining how political questions become manifest in dance: through artistic practices and representations, but also through institutions, education, mobility, cultural policy and the transmission of dance knowledge.

I’m particularly happy to see my dear colleague Anja K. Arend @izt_folkwang contributing the research article „Dis/Continuities: The Folkwang dance department in the years 1933 to 1945“, examining the Folkwang dance department during National Socialism.

At the same time, we have just opened the Call for Papers for Dance Context Journal 2027: Dance and Regeneration 🌱

The call approaches regeneration on several interconnected levels: bodies, environments, artistic practices and institutions. Contributions may address questions of care and health, injury and recovery, ageing, institutional and artistic renewal, transmission and genealogy, repertoire, and ecological practices of care and regeneration.

📌 Deadline for abstracts: 20 November 2026

More information on the current issue and the new Call for Papers via Dance Context Journal.

WELCOME BACK, HENRIETTA HORN! 🧡

We are delighted to welcome Prof. Henrietta Horn as the new Artistic Director of the Folkwang Tanzstudio (FTS), marking her return to a position she previously held alongside Pina Bausch from 1999 to 2008.

Henrietta Horn began her artistic journey studying Elementary Dance at the German Sport University Cologne, before continuing her training in Stage Dance at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen.

During her years as Co-Artistic Director of FTS alongside Pina Bausch, she created numerous choreographic works and contributed to the company’s international presence.

Her remarkable career has taken her around the world as a solo dancer and guest choreographer, with artistic engagements in London, Taipei, Damascus, Beirut, La Paz, and Jakarta. Her choreographic work has received numerous prestigious awards and international recognition.

In 2015, she was appointed Guest Professor at the Taipei National University of the Arts. Since 2021, she has been Professor of Contemporary Dance at Folkwang University of the Arts, and in 2023, she became a member of the North Rhine-Westphalian Academy of Sciences and Arts.

Now, Henrietta Horn returns to lead the Folkwang Tanzstudio into a new chapter, bringing her artistic vision, international experience, and deep connection to the company’s history.

We look forward to this new journey together.

Welcome back to FTS, Henrietta! 🧡

FAKERS CLUB Returned to Werden this summer for an exhilarating collaborative workshop and performance series with students from IZT-Folkwang and original fakers ensemble members.
It was an incredibly joyful and meaningful experience for us to share methods and practices with THESE students in THIS place.

Very happy to be selected as one of the Tanznetz Critics’ Favourites — Dancer 2025/26. 🤍

A beautiful recognition after a season filled with very special encounters and experiences — from Gala by Jérôme Bel to For the Love and Laughter by Rodolpho Leoni.

And especially grateful to have been part of Pina Bausch’s iconic The Rite of Spring with Tanztheater Wuppertal — an experience I will carry with me for a long time.

Grateful for this season, for every stage, every encounter and everything still to come.
