Setiap tahun, Studio Plesungan membuka peluang residensi bagi seniman yang sedang melakukan riset atau ingin mengembangkan minat mereka dengan terhubung ke berbagai sumber daya budaya di Jawa, khususnya Solo dan sekitarnya.

Pada Januari ini, Studio Plesungan menerima tiga mahasiswa dari Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), Singapura: Clea Soebroto @cleasoebroto , Nur Izzah @izzahpizzah , dan Kysha Ashreen @kyshaashreen . Selama dua minggu residensi mandiri, mereka mengikuti berbagai aktivitas, seperti kunjungan ke situs budaya dan museum. Program ini disediakan untuk membantu mereka menggali ide serta mengembangkan riset menjadi karya baru.

Rabu ini, ketiga mahasiswa tersebut akan mempresentasikan hasil riset artistik mereka dalam bentuk presentasi dan performans.

Hey you all! Yesterday was a pivotal milestone for our NAFA Fine Art Class of 2023 but before I deepdive into that in the next posts allow me to share some visual vignettes from the student-led off site show by my dearest BAFA Year 1s entitled Sonder. The showcase culminated from semester long thinking through making under the tutelage of @sebastianmarytay , @gl_tan80 and @suryodarmomelati. The space was graciously hosted by the Photographic Society of Singapore (@pss.sg).

I feel compelled to share the images as a memento of what agency and urgency of wanting to say something, to encarve, to imbue meanings to each others’ journeys can manifest unto. There is true reflection in the complex clouds we carry above ourselves and the footprints in the sand we leave behind- all entangled, all temporal, all indelible.

In contrary, the word Sonder itself is a neologism, coined in the Dictionary of Obscured Sorrows. I was conversing with a friend over breakfast this morning how pain, beauty, darkness and light measure differently and that makes our “walking each other home” even more special. I hope we continue to find spaces to enshrine our sonderment, our voices and urges. I am forever indebted to be given the chance to work alongside brilliant wagers of beauty.

My first time using charcoal as a medium 🙈 still haven't done my practices on A4.

But I love the character, someone who tries his best out of a shitty situation. He would do anything for the one he loves. Admirable!
