Year 8 Artist’s Study 1

As part of our Color Theory unit, students will soon be developing their final assessment artwork based on an artist reference of their choice.

For Activity 4, students were introduced to five artists to choose from for their artist study. Among these five artists are two Malaysian artists, Syed Fakaruddin and Izzuddin Basiron

These two artists were selected for their distinctive use of colour, their approaches to composition and the ways they use colour to create visual impact and express ideas through their artworks.

By studying these artists, students are encouraged to look beyond simply identifying colours. They will explore how colours interact, how different colour combinations influence the mood of an artwork and how artists use colour intentionally to communicate their ideas.

More importantly, introducing Malaysian artists allows our students to appreciate the creativity and artistic practices within our own local art scene while learning how these approaches can inform their own artistic development.

The goal is never about copying an artist’s work, but to understand their visual language and use these observations as a starting point for developing their own artworks.

Stay tuned for my students’ progress!

There’s something different about wearing art made by real people you know.
🎨 Izzuddin Basiron and Haziq Syawal painted it together. CARRO made it wearable to the world.
The confidence comes naturally.
