We didn’t have service this week but we have some MESSAGE NOTES from a couple weeks back for you! Family Matter Series Wk 1 Exodus 20:12 (AMP) “Honor (respect, obey, care for) your father and your mother, so that your days may be prolonged in the land the Lord your God gives you.” 1. A COMMAND WITH A PROMISE Out of all 10 commandments, this is the only one that includes a promise. This command appears again in the New Testament.. Ephesians 6:2–3 (ERV) “Honor your father and mother”—which is the first command with a promise—“so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.” God says honor brings blessing! 2: WHAT DOES “HONOR” ACTUALLY MEAN? The Hebrew word for “honor” in Exodus is kabad, which literally means “heavy.” In ancient culture, something heavy was considered valuable. Honor = to give weight, value, importance. Honor means: You place value on someone. You treat them as important. The idea of respect and honor in kabod comes from the idea of heaping praise, respect and honor on someone, weighing them down with respect. 3. HOW DO WE HONOR OUR PARENTS? In Ephesians Paul connects honor with obedience. Ephesians 6:1 (EEB) “You who are children, obey your parents. Because you belong to the Lord, that is the right thing to do.” We honor our parents not because they’re perfect, but because we belong to Jesus. Honor looks like: - How we talk to them (tone, facial expressions and body language matters)! - How we talk about them - Our attitude when we respond - Our actions when they’re not around (building trust, being trustworthy) - Our willingness to humble ourselves and apologize when we mess up. 4: “BUT WHAT ABOUT… THEM?” Honor doesn’t mean doing something that violates God’s Word. You obey God first. Most conflict with parents isn’t actually about what they asked you to do. Maturity is learning when to let something go, even if it hurts our pride or ego. And sometimes, even if we’re right! God’s Word is true and when we live His way, it positions us for blessing! #bcyouthwi #virtuous25 #familymatters

WEDNESDAY’S MESSAGE NOTES!! The parable of the prodigal son we love because it is such a clear example of Mercy and Grace! (Luke 15:11-32) Mercy is God not giving us what we do deserve. Grace is God giving us something we do not deserve. Challenge #1 from the parable. - Accept God’s MERCY and acknowledge his GRACE! Not only has he extended mercy and forgiveness but goes above and beyond to grace our lives with incredible futures and relationships and opportunities as SONS and DAUGHTERS! Challenge #2 from the parable. - Be a GRACE giver! We don’t want to be like the older brother. We want to be people who give GRACE where it isn’t earned or deserved! Because that’s what Jesus has done for us! #mercyandgrace #free24 #freedom #bcyouthwi

John 8:31-32&36 (NIV) “To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” We know that Jesus paid the price for our freedom! We know that with that freedom we have a choice! We know that He uses our obedience to His teachings and living our lives accordingly to set us free! So, if He has set you free, you are indeed (undoubtedly, especially, unquestionably, and definitely) free! #free24 #freedom #bcyouthwi
