Vine aquí para gritar brings together contemporary Cuban artists whose works confront deeply rooted ideas around gender, identity, power, and resistance. Through painting, photography, installation, and mixed media, the exhibition opens a space for reflection on the social structures that continue to shape both everyday life and artistic expression in Cuba. More than an exhibition, it is an invitation to question inherited narratives and engage with voices that challenge, disrupt, and reimagine the present. 📍Studio Anselm Dastner (618E 9th Street New York, NY10009) 🗓 Opening Reception: June 11, 2026 | 6–8 PM 🗓 Exhibition on view: June 11–28, 2026

Articulo 20 is incredibly excited to announce “Vine Aquí Para Gritar: Challenging Gender in Contemporary Cuban Art”, opening on Thursday June 11th, 2026 at Studio Anselm Dastner at 618 East 9th Street, New York, NY 10009. Taking its name from a celebrated line in Mariel exile Reinaldo Arenas’ 1992 memoir “Before Night Falls”, the three-week exhibition brings together six remarkable Cuban artists whose practices boldly challenge the deeply rooted gender constructs of machismo and marianismo. Through a variety of mediums, each artist gives voice to deeply personal narratives of repression, resilience, and reemergence. Their work moves beyond representation to ascertation, expressing voices that were historically silenced and reframing them as central to Cuba’s cultural narrative. Through painting, sculpture, mixed media, and photography, the exhibition offers access to a vital and rapidly evolving segment of contemporary Cuban art. Complementing the show, two special evening events exploring gender non-conforming cinema and literature will be held at the gallery on June 18th and June 25th featuring very special guests to be announced here. These promise to be unforgettable nights of art, conversation, and culture. If you have any questions or desire any additional information on the exhibition, please contact Terrence Levens (terrence@articulo20.art). #nyc #cubanart #contemporaryart #lowereastsideart

Ona Galería @onagaleria (Havana) RaccoonProjects @raccoonprojects (Barcelona) Vórtex | SWAB 2025 Featuring work from @j.nazabal , @laurasofia_thorez , @viivaa__ Ona Galería is a curatorial collective managed by Patricia García and Enzzo Hernández in Havana. It is an independent space focused on the co-creation and co-curation of emerging and contemporary art projects in Cuba, with an emphasis on the queer collective, sexual dissidence, the female perspective, and identity politics. Their work is based on a conscious selection of underrepresented voices, as well as a constant reflection on resilience and otherness. Raccoon Projects is an independent space in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat characterized by working through experimentation and dialogue with artists. Its practice focuses on the production of site-specific projects and the creation of new works that respond to space and context. In just a couple of years, it has become a meeting place for proposals exploring new materialities, questioning exhibition formats, and connecting with the local artistic community. Their work converged on themes of intimacy as an expanded territory, memory as material, and queerness as both a vital and political experience. Through their diverse practices, they challenged the boundaries between the personal and the collective, the body and history, and desire and the archive. Thorrez’s emotional paintings, Nazábal’s intimate archives, and Viva’s Transición poética explored memory, care, and transformation, offering a space where queer identities and experiences can be both personal and collective. These works proposed sensitive maps that resist homogenization, celebrating the power of intimacy and the potential of art to subvert and unite. #Swab2025 #Vortex
