2016

Looking back, it makes me realize how much growth and change can actually happen in 10 years. It seems forever ago, but then again a blink.

In 2016 I was 10 years into my career as a freelance artist, moved twice, bought my first house, had my second international group show, this one in Sweden, almost seriously drowned myself by drinking more than recommended water while we were moving starting my electrolyte imbalances now in hindsight. My daughter turned 13. My stepdaughter, Jayme turning 18, graduating high school and starting college, continuing to expand my licensing with my art into Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Australia, Canada, and dream commissions with global brands and clients.

The energy, the beautiful energy I used to have, enough to balance teenagers, home, my career, drop offs and pick ups from school, grocery stores and dinners and full time commissions for clients, barely sleeping, but still having that magical energy that I haven’t felt since Covid and as my hormones took to their cliff dive in my 40s.

Laughing on the phone with my mom daily, not knowing I only had a just few years left with her. 🥺💔Happy hours, dinners, concerts, travel, A free spirit, living fearlessly before my heart issues with SVT and Afib, making me quit anything buzz worthy like a drink or two a smoke or two, caffeine all at once and stress. A spirit I’m still trying to find again in bits as I navigate the mental health of all the trauma from 13 ER trips and two heart surgeries.

Adding two more cats to a total of three to our household, (now five with two dogs) painting in plein air on my back patio all summer, connecting deeper with nature in 2016 more than ever before. Grateful for Instagram for bringing me and connecting me to clients and global brands and most of all you! Making it at that time an opportunity for us all to connect easier before the algorithm. It truly does feel like that year on in general was such perfect amount of analog and digital, things were still a bit messy and real. True.

Maybe we can guide our way back to that in 2026, as @garancedore latest note on her Substack, “messy is back” !!
