Our first single Nightswimming is now on streaming services!! Born from a text by @j.starr.io for our 2025 show Metabolic Riffs @syrup.contemporary . Their words tapped into our work’s milk-consciousness, and over a year later we have spored these words into a new vocal sound arrangement. Also available as a limited 7” vinyl + 140pg hardbound book Interiors Underground edition. Limited and available via us or @syrup.contemporary This text didn’t come from an interview or formal discussion about the work, but divined from years of solid hangs, and the de-professionalised attention only a radically aligned headspace can hold, not to mention a sync of like-conjured references! These are the kinds of collabs that form by chance. Thank you Jake ⭐️

Epic fails, or, ordinary failure just wasn’t enough Program by Kiera Boult Artists: Cassie Packham, Dayna McLeod, Fox Maxy, Jake Starr, Marion Balac The works in this program call on my inner internet child, left behind on early-2000s platforms like MySpace. Here, the digital plane becomes haunted by a familiar past. Ancient avatars, unruly subjects, and gaudy profile layouts, shaped by the internet’s early mess and excess, resisting contemporary pursuits of mastery and efficiency, surfacing early selves left behind for failing to be productive. These works subvert this language of mastery by using pixelated .gifs, 3D-modelled landscapes, and found footage to raise questions about the origins of our early selves and what remains of them in the hyper-optimized present. This self has been shaped by broken HTML code and self-built worlds that extractive data practices have since paved over. But the traces of our early internet selves persist….. SITUATED KNOWLEDGES ARTIST FEATURE: Jake Starr Borderspace Gallery
24th of July Opening 6PM — Late Jake Starr is a research-based artist residing on unceded Gadigal land (Sydney, Australia). Starr’s practice yearns across new media, sculpture, film and text, toward speculative post-human futures. Much of their process involves the appropriation of disregarded ideas, data and intelligences in order to formulate surprising relational ecologies. Starr’s research is informed by the frameworks of post-structuralism and queer ecology as much as the seemingly frameless, fringe stirrings of furry fandom, conspiracy theories and accelerationism. Their work often operates within zones of slippage, creating webs of intimacy which evoke imaginaries that exist beyond historical grand narratives and anthropocentric hegemony.
