⚡️Inside the Session: Board relays at Sunset Beach

Three members per team. Each athlete races around a short can, with a spicy sand transition sprint to tag their next teammate.

Well done to the team of Liam, Mouse, and Amica for taking the win on the last relay!

We love seeing how the level always lifts in a team relay when bragging rights are on the line. 😎

Happy birthday, Mother Dearest.❤️🌺

I was looking through the collection of photos I put together for my speech at your 70th birthday, and one thing was very clear.

Red.

If there was one colour that could represent you, it would always be red.

From your hair to your nails, your clothes and all those iconic pieces that were just so completely you. There was always a strong flash of red somewhere.

At school, as a teacher, your nickname was the Red Dragon. You were also famous for giving everyone a special red lipstick kiss on the cheek on their birthday.

And, to me, you were always my Orangutan. 😂🦧

Looking through these photos of you at all the different stages of your life, I realise just how much red became part of the picture of you in my head.

You’ve been gone since 2021, but red still always makes me think of you.

In fact, if you ever notice that I wear a lot of red these days, there’s a reason.

It’s my little way of carrying you with me. Through all the adventures, the milestones and the chapters I know you’d be so proud to hear about.

Happy birthday, Mom. ❤️🌺

Sometimes training doesn’t go to plan…

and that’s okay. 💪

With the pool fully booked this weekend, we had to change things up. Instead of our usual pool session, we focused on line throw practice and refreshed our SERC theory.

Not every session is about getting in the water. Sometimes it’s about sharpening the skills and knowledge that make the difference when it matters most.

Adapt. Learn. Improve. 🌊

CLIFTON IN THE 90’s — LEGACIES BUILT IN THE SURF

The 90’s at Clifton Surf Lifesaving Club was simple.

No social media. Speedo sponsored our costumes. Castle Lager sponsored our sport. The iconic CLIFTON yellow stood out on black — worn with pride.

It was 4th Beach sessions in proper cold Clifton water. No wetsuits at training, ever. Just fresh sunset swims, sweaty sessions in soft sand, touch rugby warm-ups, and a few bombs off an old Paarman board at First Beach when it was firing.

We made strides in the 90’s.
Springbok Debbie McCallum representing South Africa.
1995 SA Champs hosted at Camps Bay.
1996 — our first ever team sent to Lifesaving World Champs in Durban 🌍

Alongside seasons of surf carnivals, provincial racing, and endless weekends on the beach.

But it was never just about the results.

It was the culture built between races.
The friendships formed in the surf.
The pride of pulling on Clifton colours.

And not much has changed.🖤💛
