my heart is so full 💜

about a month ago, I started learning ASL. @lollapalooza was my first time signing with other d/Deaf and HOH people.

I remember how I felt leading up to the festival. so excited… but also so scared. nervous. hesitant.

what if I signed something wrong? what if I didn’t understand? what if people tell me I’m not “deaf enough” or didn’t belong there?

but when someone signed “hi! what’s your name?” to me for the first time, I felt my fears going away.

everyone was so welcoming. patient when I asked them to repeat. even said they saw my videos and thought they were cool. we bonded over our favorite artists, asked each other about our lives, complimented outfits, and just all around good vibes.

I truly felt the love at lolla. I can’t wait to keep improving my ASL, make more friends in the community, and continue on this journey.

thank you to lolla, the incredible interpreters, the volunteers, and all the amazing friends for making this experience so incredible. I can’t wait for next year 💗
