Four weeks. Players from 6U to 13U. Different starting points, but one shared opportunity to grow.

We taught, demonstrated, reinforced, competed, adjusted, laughed, struggled, and kept showing up for the next rep. The biggest win was not one drill, radar number, or certificate. It was watching young athletes become more confident in the facility, more comfortable in their bodies, and more willing to learn and compete.

Thank you to Blackwell’s Bullpen, every instructor, every family, and every player who helped make this first chapter meaningful. Before asking God for what comes next, I am grateful for what He has already allowed us to build.

“Building athleticism starts with learning how to organize your body.” Throughout camp, we’ve consistently come back to posture, body awareness, balance, and learning how to move with sequence.

With our 6U/7U players, checklists and routines can work extremely well—but they take patience, reinforcement, and plenty of opportunities for the kids to demonstrate and teach it back. Once they learn the language and begin recognizing the same concepts across different drills, they will surprise you with what they can retain and apply.

This warm-up gave our athletic stance checklist a little more movement and purpose.

We used a bat on the ground as a visual reference point:

Feet together in the center → sequence the feet 1–2 to one end → reset → 1–2 to the other end → find our athletic position.

Then we added the PVC pipe:

Variation 1: Press overhead while exploring balance, breathing, and controlled movement.

Variation 2: Secure the PVC across the chest and explore the hinge—soft hinge, hold and feel it, exaggerate the hinge, then control the body back up.

Nothing overly complicated. We’re simply helping young athletes learn where their body is in space, how to sequence their feet, how to control their center of mass, and how to intentionally find an athletic position.

At this age, the first few reps can take some patience. Reinforce it. Reteach it. Let them demonstrate it. Hold them accountable to the checklist.

Then watch what happens when the same language starts showing up in the next drill.

We’re not just telling them to “get athletic.” We’re teaching them what getting athletic actually feels like. #BuiltToLastBaseball #BlackwellsBullpen #YouthBaseball #BaseballCamp #YouthAthleteDevelopment @thepitchingwhisperer @jacemayn @blackwellsbullpen

While college may have felt like a long journey- long distance with late night FaceTime calls, lots of homework, and many baseball games. It truly has flown by. Here we are closing this chapter in our lives, ready for the next. High school us would be so happy and proud to see where we are at. Up next is graduation! 🎓🥳
