When I told everyone I wanted to study in the US back in 10th grade, they all thought it was a crazy idea because my dad was a cab driver and mom was a driving instructor, and we barely could afford a house of our own. A lot of people told me to stop dreaming because I would only “make my family miserable” as they would struggle paying for my education.
I found a way to get the school to pay 70% of my costs and 3.5 years later, here I am. I just graduated with Summa Cum Laude, Departmental Honors and within the top 1% of the university. It would be a lie if I said I didn’t have nights crying in the bathroom or sobbing in bed looking at family photos. Would be a lie if I said I sometimes couldn’t find a purpose and question the meaning of all my effort. Would be a lie if I said this wasn’t the result of hours of hard work not just from me but from my parents who supported me financially on this journey.

Thank you thank you thank you, to everyone who were there to cheer for my achievements and also cheer for my failures. You are the support system that I needed when mine is 9,000 miles away.
