Frog buttress was a literal fever dream. Upon arrival in Australia, I succumbed to one of the worst flus I’ve ever had. It stayed for weeks, and I experienced this crack climbing paradise through a state of semi delirium, the trees swaying slightly more than they should and the raindrop calls of the lyrebird reverberating uncomfortably inside my head. Fortified with a strong cup of coffee, a sheath of strepsils and borrowed courage from my wonderful climbing friends (Anita, Dave, Jack and dearest Conor), I quested upwards in pursuit of the secrets of crack climbing.

I tried to think how to paint my experience here. How to capture feeling infinite as you hand jam your way to the heavens. I would start with a palette of rusty reds and purples. The sky burning orange through the trees and fading into lavender as our tired bodies ground to a halt. There would be the white of the powerful owl keeping watch above, and the cream of the underbelly of the sugar glider who flew above our fairy lit campsite. The speckled yellows of the goanna crunching through the leaves and cacti, and the brown of the brush tailed wallaby with a Joey in its pouch. And of course the orange of the rock in all its shades of magnificence. A testament to time being weathered by the beating sun.

During the day, the warmth from the rock found its way into us, and we glowed with a wild joy that stayed long after the sun went down.

The Bear 100 mile ultra marathon.

Four marathons back to back with enough climbing to almost make it to the top of Mt Everest. I was fueled by the people who called me crazy, and by the idea that I can show people that the impossible is possible. You can do anything you set your mind to. That said, I could not have done this without the people who did believe it was possible. @zach_thomsen88 pushed me when I had nothing left to give, and together, we made it 30 more miles through the night until I picked up @pippa.townshend and she took me to the finish line. I also can’t go without acknowledging @preston.hanson and @daisylt123 for ripping some enjoyable miles together through the mountains, while my body was still in one piece 😂.

‘El Matto & friends’

A long awaited and overdue ode to good friends, great waves, my road-side-find-super8 camera and Ahipara, Aotearoa.

I have often felt I struggle to put into words properly the gratitude I feel towards people for showing me kindness and generosity. I am very grateful for the people in this clip and I hope this serves in some way to show them that. Thanks 🌻
