I took my wife to “The Sex Party” for her birthday. Yes, this is exactly as risky a birthday present as it sounds. Luiza was celebrating yet another 18th birthday, and since she seems to have accumulated quite a few of those, every additional year is apparently another percentage point of life’s VAT. So I decided to take her to the theatre. A week before the show, I was having a pint at Ma Egerton’s with Robbie and Pat when Zoë Teverson, one of the actresses from the production, walked into the pub after rehearsals. She was a little shy about saying what show she was in, referring to it as something along the lines of “The S… Show”. I already knew exactly what she meant, though, because I was planning to take Luiza there. A few pints and several hours of conversation later, we had somehow stopped being strangers. Which is a very Liverpool way for an evening to develop. A few days later, I was sitting in the tiny and intimate @hopestreettheatre with Luiza, Robbie and Pat, watching Zoë on stage. And the production turned out to be much more interesting than its title might suggest. The audience sits in the kitchen while the actual sex party takes place in the living room, just beyond the door. We hear the sounds and conversations, watch the reactions and let our imagination fill in what we cannot see. It is funny, awkward, provocative, and, beneath it all, surprisingly thoughtful. Because underneath the sex, the real subject is people: relationships, jealousy, insecurity, boundaries, acceptance and the strange ways in which we convince ourselves that we know exactly what we are doing, even when we clearly don't. There is nudity, too, but the most interesting thing isn't the nudity itself. It is the vulnerability that comes with having nothing left to hide behind. And then, because apparently this evening wasn't already sufficiently Liverpool, we ended up at The Philharmonic with Zoë, the rest of the cast and Terry Johnson, talking about the production over a few drinks. We even discovered that Jack Loy, one of the actors, speaks some Polish because he spent part of his life in Wrocław. Naturally. Only in Liverpool. Full review in 🇵🇱 in bio.

👽💀🦠🪐 LIFE Concept By @3deepsfx Written By @harker_filmmaker What a fantastic set, walking onto the illustrious design of this rotting ship was a great experience. A quick look behind the scenes on my latest short; The Man In The Road. Directed by Jamie Swaby, starring Sheridan Sherratt, Kiara Kiandra, Jack Loy. Towards the end of last year I desperately wanted to complete my 5 in 25 challenge of 5 shorts shot in the year. I was on number 4 and needed one more. So at the beginning of December I wrote a short thriller called The Man In The Road with the intention to produce it too. You know, a quick and simple one (HA!). In the end though, I had another opportunity to DOP a ready to go short called Livid (thanks to @davegalloway_ and @aaranmckenziefilms for that ❤️) so I completed my challenge. But I still had The Man In The Road on my mind. So I went for it. I'd worked with Jamie Swaby on My Man; An Origin Story and knew id love to work with him again as director. We assembled an incredible cast and crew and in the first week of January at -1⁰C we decended on a quiet country road in East Leeds. Check out the behind the scenes to see what we got up to... I can't wait to show you what we made. It's currently in post. I'm still looking for a colourist and composer so if you know anyone who might be interested, get in touch.
