I always knew I wanted to start my own company. I just never knew when, or if I’m being honest with you, WHAT that company would do. I started my first company when I was 10 years old. We sold firewood. That company lasted one day. It was terrible. Managing employees (my little brother) and difficult clients (a guy down the street) was awful. My second company was started on September 15, 2020, and that was @serhant. On September 15, 2008, 12 years prior, I got my real estate license, and Lehman Brothers filed for bankruptcy that same morning, kicking off the subprime mortgage collapse and the great recession. Solid timing. It was only fitting to start the company on the same day… in the middle of a global pandemic, in a city that was completely shut down.

I took a lot of photos in the time leading up to the start of the business that I’ve never really shared before. So here are a few that make me tear up. “It was best of times and it was the worst of times.” That quote is so true. Because as awful as that time was for so many different reasons for so many different people, it was so awesome in hindsight.

I REALLY made the decision to start the company in the summer of 2017, but it took me until the summer of 2019 to feel ready. By that point, we had launched Serhant Media Group and were driving organic lead flow at a pace we couldn’t keep up with through social, and we had launched Sell It like Serhant online that August, and were making $100,000 per day in course and memberships. So I had the 3 Cs: content, community, and commerce. All organic. Our plan was to announce the company on July 1, 2020 but then people started getting sick in March and then the world shut down.

This is a photo of me and Zena right after she turned 1 in the room next to my parent’s garage in New Hampshire. When the fire department and the NYPD told Emilia and I that fireman and police officers were going to have to shelter in place and that they were probably gonna close the bridges and tunnels, we left the city. This table, and through zoom, and the fact that we had the spring market to ourselves for the first time in my career to just BUILD, started the early foundation of S.

What a year with this team I get to call family.

From our first time meeting in October to the Ignite 2026 conference, these people are the best! Esther, Owen, and Graycie, you have all shown me just how much someone can make an impact in their community. You all amaze me in your will to work and fun while doing it. I am beyond thankful to work on the same team, and I cannot wait for the YIA reunions in the coming years!

Gracie our wonderful Advisor, “momma hen”, and best hype woman I could have ever asked for. Thank you for making this year full of surprises, adventure, and laughter all these months. They truly were life changing!

Finally Jacquie and MN 4-H, thank you for always being there and supporting me from the front row. It’s been an honor to represent Minnesota and have Jacquie by my side the whole time, even if it includes not so great of selfies…

Well that’s a wrap of the best week of my life at the National Spark Celebration and National Ignite Conference! To @estherbonneyy @owenbrosanders and @antonioabecker, there’s no one else I’d rather experience being a Youth In Action Winner with. It’s been such a joy getting to know and grow with each and every one of you! 4-H has truly shaped me into the person and leader I am today and I will forever be so thankful for 4-H and the incredible opportunities it’s provided me over the years!#national4h 🤍🍀✨
