Rescue Swimmer Positioning
Small Adjustments. Big Difference.
The rescue swimmer plays an important role in how the PWC handles during a rescue.
Key principles:
• Lean into turns to help maintain balance and control.
• Keep your hips toward the rear of the rescue sled.
• Allow your legs to trail naturally in the water to help stabilize the sled.
• Avoid placing unnecessary weight on the front of the sled, which can reduce maneuverability and make the PWC more difficult to control.
The driver and rescue swimmer should move as one unit.
Better positioning creates better control. Better control creates a safer rescue.

Unconscious Victim Control on the Rescue Sled
There are a lot of skills in this video but I want to highlight Maintaining control during transport.
Key principles:
• Secure your arms under the patient’s armpits while maintaining a firm grip on the sled handles.
• Position your thigh between the patient’s legs to prevent the body from sliding during acceleration, deceleration, or turns.
• Keep your head low and tight against the patient’s head to help prevent head-to-head impact and maintain control during transport.
A controlled patient allows for a controlled rescue.
Slow is smooth. Smooth is fast.

Single-Operator Unconscious Pickup – Making the Connection
One of the most important moments in a single-operator rescue happens before the recovery ever begins. Making contact with the victim.
In this reel you’ll see:
❌ Approach 1: Too wide with little to no throttle. The result is poor control and an ineffective connection.
❌ Approach 2: Too much speed. The operator sacrifices control and struggles to maintain contact with the victim.
✅ Approach 3: Controlled throttle, a solid connection to the victim, and the PWC placed in neutral before beginning the recovery.
The goal isn’t speed…it’s control.
A controlled approach creates a controlled recovery.
Slow is smooth. Smooth is fast.
