We love hearing stories about multigenerational Stevens students and alumni, and we recently connected with the Morrison family about their own multigenerational Stevens family story.

Jack Morrison ‘27 just started at Stevens this fall semester, entering a five year program. He will graduate in 2027, 100 years after his great-grandfather William “Bill” Henry Morrison (Class of 1927).

Back when his great-grandfather Bill attended Stevens there was only one residence hall available for students on campus, the Castle Stevens building which used to be the historic home of the Stevens family and was sold by the family to the university in 1910. The castle only housed 44 students at the time, and most of the students were commuters unless they were in a fraternity and lived in their fraternity house nearby. Bill was a commuter himself, and would drive to campus in his 1920s convertible town and sport Moon automobile from Paterson, New Jersey where he lived with his family.

In comparison, the Stevens campus can now provide over 1800 undergraduate students with on-campus housing! In addition, when Bill entered Stevens back in the fall semester of 1924, he was a part of a group of 95 first-year students. This fall semester of 2022 welcomed 1,076 first -year undergraduate students. What a difference one hundred years makes!

Welcome to all the new and returning students! Have a great fall semester.
