Not That Deep is proud to present 𝘐𝘵'𝘴 𝘕𝘰𝘵 𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘋𝘦𝘦𝘱. A group show commemorating our first year of operation. We invited every artist who has shown with or supported us in the past year to create a work with cardboard. A big thank you to those who have shown with us or supported us but could not be a part. We will host an opening reception this Friday, October 16th, from 5-9pm. We believe in sharing art in person, and we are lucky to host such an incredible community of artists. Exhibition Review (excerpt): “ARTIFACT” at Not That Deep Gallery, Bushwick, Brooklyn (June 27 - July 18, 2026) My friends at Not That Deep Gallery have their one-year anniversary exhibition coming up this Friday! In celebration of this milestone, here is an excerpt of my review for their Summer exhibition, “ARTIFACT”. You can find the full review on my publication Art & Ponder on Substack! “During one of my lectures in the Museum Education course I am teaching at Brooklyn College, I told my students that museums are repositories of “things”, my usage of this purportedly vague word being very intentional. There is this collective sense that a museum is an architectural container for only fine art, objects of historical significance, and other treasures. Yes, these would deservedly find themselves a home in such hallowed institutions, but these are not the only objects of merit. “The things in this classroom could very well end up in a museum as examples of cultural life, functional living in 2026, and so forth - this Bic pen, your NorthFace jacket, your laptop covered in collectible stickers, the key to the classroom.” This is not only thinking about the significance of objects or things in the “now”, but also with a sense of futurity. My friends Sadie Withers and Alina Hoai, the co-founders of the basement-level Not That Deep Gallery in Bushwick, curated an interesting show over the Summer in which their artists were faced with the following prompt: ‘What will survive the passage of time? I recently connected with a hip, stylish art writer named Jagger van Vliet who recently published a great review on Trill Mag about an exhibition many of my friends were involved in, “Working Title - Curated by Clayton Harris” (@futurewarcult ) at Sitting Room Gallery on the Lower East Side. Below is an excerpt of Jagger’s writing along with a few images of the art from opening night. Be sure to read his piece (which I’m linking in one of my recent stories)! Excerpt: “Anyone stubborn enough to insist there’s no art scene in New York City is dead wrong. It’s a Friday night, on the eve of New York Fashion Week no less, and the Sitting Room Gallery is as packed as I’ve ever seen it. Wall to wall. To the gills. Far from dying, it feels like stumbling into a moment. The Moment. Something that nobody wants to miss. A Special Night In Two Bridges, it’s a real who’s who—a cast of colorful talents who have, for me, become recognizable icons. In the last 3 months, I’ve met most of them by way of the city’s network of DIY art galleries. I’ve come to understand that the New York art scene exists in much the same way as the Boston house show circuit: mostly underground, deeply entrenched within tight-knit, passionate communities.
