Jack Bratt's 'Heaven' was born from a period of frustration, uncertainty and the realisation that sometimes the best thing you can do is stop fighting the current.

Written and recorded in his apartment studio, the track captures a more introspective side of Bratt's songwriting, balancing experimentation, energy and the process of learning to trust your instincts.

We chat with Jack about 'Heaven', creative freedom, finding confidence as a solo artist, the Grant McLennan Fellowship, touring with major international acts and the music still to come.

Sometimes a song comes from having everything figured out. Other times, it comes from simply allowing yourself to follow the feeling and see where it takes you. Jack Bratt’s latest single, Heaven, belongs firmly in the second category, offering a reflective glimpse into an artist who sounds increasingly comfortable with his own musical direction.

For Bratt, Heaven arrived during an especially creative stretch of songwriting. He had built a small studio inside his apartment and was constantly writing, recording, and developing several songs at once. That everyday process became its own kind of motivation, with the finished work providing enough encouragement to return to the studio and keep creating.

That sense of momentum can be felt in Heaven. Rather than sounding like a song chasing a particular trend, it feels like the work of an artist becoming more certain about what he wants his music to be. There is a sense of reflection at its heart, but also a quiet confidence that gives the track its character.

HEAVEN

Australian indie rock artist Jack Bratt has shared his new single ‘Heaven’.

‘Heaven’ was written by @jackbratt and came to life during a period of constant writing and recording in his small studio that he had set up in his apartment and finialised with the help of Joel Myles from Brisbane’s Hunting Grounds Studios.

Jack Bratt

Slow Release
2021

My introduction to Brisbane musician Jack Bratt was his support gig to Bob Mould at the Triffid.

He did a solo set and whilst it can’t have been easy to play before Bob Mould he impressed me with his tunes and guitar work.

There’s a stack of great artists out there all doing what they love and hoping they make enough to get by, I remember Jack saying his Mum helped with packing albums and he probably wasn’t joking.

I’m stoked to support him because he’s making good music that deserves to be heard.
