@jackiedarby63’s newborn cries were heard by a missionary nurse passing a landfill in Seoul, Korea in 1963. Jackie sat down with me to talk about the trauma of her birth, her adoption story, and her struggle with identity.

📖 Dios tu creador te dice: “No tengas miedo. Yo te he liberado; te he llamado por tu nombre y tú me perteneces.

Every year I leave @filledgathering changed. A bit more healed and restored, filling my cup to overflow with laughter and worship. And being with 1100 other moms who just “get it”. (it’s the best)

I know I am biased because I love @fosterthefamilyblog and her entire crew/family so much, but this retreat is incredibly life giving and years beyond the curve for trauma informed trainings (and that are actually full of hope).

Despite not shying away from hard topics and stories, there is immense joy and connection to be found at Filled (shout out to @laurelnicolesoffer and @justicevolz221 for bringing the laughs). It’s also found in the hugs, and the silliness with friends, the coffee and goodies from the Amish market, or even the extra space in your suitcase to bring all the books and treats home!! The joy is my favorite.

Thank you to @mackbrock and the worship team who poured out so much again this year to minister and bring us to the Father’s heart. So deeply grateful that so many use their unique gifting and talents to bless this community.

And you know I think God is pretty biased towards Filled too, so many things that could have thrown the team off course only led to God receiving more glory!

♥️♥️♥️

It is incredible to go from a place where you hardly meet anyone who fosters or adopts to standing in a massive conference center where EVERYONE does.

I am currently at the 2026 Filled Conference with my book, standing among 1,500 other foster and adoptive moms, women who are the absolute definition of an army. These women make a conscious DECISION every day to enter into this absolutely brutal yet much needed work. Hearing their stories, their voices, and their praises while they live in the midst of brokenness day in and day out is soul-shaking.

Foster care and adoption are often painted as “sweet,” but the reality of this calling—of holding the trauma of a child who is just trying to survive—is so hard. It looks like being cursed at and spit on. It’s property damage, physical and emotional attacks, and cleaning up bodily fluids. It’s the lies, the stealing, and the accusations in your face. It’s crying alone in a closet or your car, then forcing yourself to walk back out with a smile because you refuse to make their pain about you. It’s the cycle of attachment and withdrawal, the rejection, the broken system… and the goodbyes.

It’s the constant internal battle between “I can’t do this anymore, this is too much” and “I was meant for this” over and over again 😭.

There are beautiful moments, but the light we started with can feel smaller over time—sometimes it even goes out 🕯️. This is no easy task, and I am so honored that my book is getting into the hands of these heroes today with a simple reminder that no matter how dark the night, YOU ARE BEING CARRIED and light does still exist for you AND your children. 🕊️
