Twenty Minutes Is the New Hour is officially out in the world today!

This is my third book, but this launch feels different. So much has changed since my last one came out. I opened Bedford Books. My boys have gotten older (how I have a ninth grader and an eleventh grader, I’m still not quite sure). My niece (who is like my daughter) got married. My parents are getting older too, and I’m spending more time helping and caring for them.

And somewhere in the middle of all of it, I wrote a book about time.

The biggest thing I’ve learned? I don’t need another way to squeeze more into my days. I need to get better at deciding what deserves my time—and what doesn’t.

That’s what this book is really about: spending less time on the things that drain us so we can make more room for the people, work, and experiences that matter most. I hope it gives you back some of that time. 💛

And because it’s launch day, I have to ask! A very exciting first this week... ✨

The article highlights the book’s message that many of us lose time to what I call the 4 P’s: perfectionism, people-pleasing, procrastination, and padding (giving tasks more time than they actually need), and offers a more intentional approach to where we direct our time and energy.

It’s hard to describe what it feels like to spend years working on something and then start seeing it make its way into the world.

Happy pub day to the inimitable @scottshigeoka 🍻🙌🏼❤️📖

In the spring of 2022, my business partner and bestie Lauren Hamlin and I began working with a writer who had recently sold a book proposal about curiosity. His name was (and is) Scott Shigeoka, and he was looking for thought-partners and some editorial coaching. We had very limited bandwidth at the time, but after talking to Scott (because we were curious to hear more), we knew we had to join the project. I don't say this with false or inflated enthusiasm: Scott is one of the most magical people I've ever spent time with -- so magical, in fact, that at every restaurant where I've eaten with him the servers have given us extra dishes on the house, because they felt his genuine interest in them and it lit up their day a little. Lending a hand on the book was a humbling growth experience for me, in large part because it made me realize that a self-narrative I had about being a very curious person wasn't completely true. Sure, I'm intellectually curious, but as Scott's work gently showed me, there's so much more to curiosity than that, and I was woefully lacking in certain dimensions. Learning from Scott, and observing him, really did change me. Now, a year and a half and far too many curiosity puns later, Scott's special magic hits shelves next today in the form of his first book, Seek: How Curiosity Can Change Your Life and Transform the World.

Seek mixes fascinating science (for example, the role of curiosity in human evolution), great stories (like the time Scott drove across the US to get to know Trump supporters -- he really practices what he preaches), practical advice and strategies (non-cheesy techniques for being more curious we can actually implement in daily life), and just a big sage heart that hopes to provide us all with ways to heal, yet without ever tipping into toxic positivity. If nothing else, this book will give you new ideas for how to disagree, even vehemently, with others while minimizing emotional pain for everyone involved, though it also offers much more than that. Curious yet? (Sorry, couldn't resist).
