Wofford routs in-state rival @citadelfootball 42-14 in a game the Terriers dominated from start to finish. The Terriers have now won 24 of the last 29 matchups in the series. Wofford entered halftime with a 21-0 lead over the Bulldogs, and extended their lead to 42-7 before a Citadel touchdown with just under 2 minutes remaining in the game.

The Terriers were led by preseason All-SoCon RB Gerald Modest Jr. with 19 carries for 105 yards & 2 TD’s on the ground, along with 4 receptions for 39 yards receiving. Wofford QB JT Fayard finished 18/26 passing for 176 yards and 2 TDs, while true freshman QB Kaeden Gilstrap added another 5 yard passing TD. Wideout Colby Alexander finished with two scores of his own on 4 receptions for 35 yards.

LB Wyatt Ward was absolutely dominant on defense, with 13 tackles including 7 solo tackles. The Terriers secondary was flying all over the field, with Preseason All-SoCon 1st Teamer Eli Campbell leading the way to the tune of 7 tackles, 1 PD & 1 TFL. Freshman DB Ky’Ree Murphy recorded his first career interception, almost taking it back for the Pick 6 after an incredibly acrobatic play on the INT. Senior LB Javario Tinch added 3 solo tackles and a crucial fumble recovery on the Terrier goal line to keep The Citadel off the scoreboard in the first half.

Wofford’s special teams play was once again fantastic, a staple of the Terriers under HC Shawn Watson. LS Joshua Hodge recovered a muffed punt deep in Citadel territory leading to a score. Wofford’s blocked punt on the first play of the second quarter was recovered and returned 33 yards for a touchdown by freshman RB Davis Penn.

Wofford (1-0) will face off against Gardner-Webb next week in Gibbs Stadium at 1:30 PM. The game will be streaming on ESPN+.
