These High School Football Players Are Just As Fast As NFL Players.

Believe it or not it is true. Not all NFL players but they’d be right in the middle range of speed in an NFL athlete.

Our perception of NFL speed is skewed because of the NFL Combines 40yd dash, you think that because a guy ran a 4.25 that he is just a 4.25 guy. Well kinda but not really he obviously has the genetic capability to run a 4.25 but he doesn’t walk around able to run a 4.25 anytime he wants. He didn’t just go to the combine and run a 4.25 he trained extremely hard and dedicated 8+ weeks of his life specifically to run a fast 40.

8 weeks ago he was probably a high 4.4s low 4.5s guy. Then after the combine he never has to run another 40 again so he doesn’t need to train for it. Guess what, he loses a bit of that speed, because speed doesn’t make you a good football player, the training is very different. So he starts training to be good at FOOTBALL.

I would put the house down on if you asked Xavier Worthy to run a 40yd dash tomorrow he’d likely run 4.4s.

So how are these kids that fast? They are training for recruiting camps this summer and came to me to get…faster! So we have been focusing strictly on speed. Does this make them better at football? No, it makes them faster, speed doesn’t necessarily hurt you unless you can’t control it but a 4.4 vs a 4.7 has no correlation between performance on the field besides maybe 2-3 breakaway plays a year.

Force to Form

Maintaining a good thigh separation as you transition from your acceleration phase to max velocity is critical in sprint performance. When you lose the separation stride length shortens as you don’t have enough panic of the front leg to swing through and pull the center of mass forward. It’s not about running with high knees that cue ruins speed. It’s about maintaining the separation between the thighs.

Using my best variation of a @shredmillspeed till we are big time and can buy one!

Freak Speed

Speed is about acceleration, acceleration is about force, the capacity of force is elevated in the weight room

Not much volume to not crush them with other training they got right now, but intent and intensity stays high.

Freak Athlete Lower Body Workout

These boys are training for recruiting camps in summer so the weight room work is focused on maximizing their speed in the 40yd dash.
