Alright time for another recap:

@hermosabeachvbopen was another one for the books! Quite possibly the best athlete experience of the domestic tour events I had an absolute blast balling with the kid @patrick__buckel who absolutely tore it up in his first ever main draw!

Theme of this season has been hitman for hire and making the most of opportunities and despite Pat and I having maybe a day of practice together ever we figured it out, battled through the quali, and even won a match in the main draw! Super proud of Pat, who I kinda coached a few years ago being wise and composed and mature beyond his years and making this tournament an absolutely unforgettable experience!

Got to talk some good banter with the crowd on stadium court, hit a bunch of 6-7 emotes, and all in all play free and with exuberant enthusiasm all tournament long!

Little sis @mcshaffer7 once again balled out and made it to Saturday and we kept the streak of brother and sister siblings in main draws alive! So proud of her and a massive thank you to @colosseumathletics for being incredible and generous with great gear and the most comfortable clothing out there!

Massive thank you to Alex, VC, and the whole @spikengo.vball community for once again making playing volleyball possible for those of us who don’t have tech jobs and thank you to @hermosabeachvbopen and the training staff for keeping me functional throughout the tournament!

To the fans and the players, play with joy and for the love of the game and see y’all in Laguna tomorrow!

First US Maindraw checked off the list! Still letting this one sink in.

This past weekend at the Hermosa Beach Open, @chrisshaffer_3 had an opportunity and took it. Battling through a brutal qualifier, we took down two really solid teams and some great buddies along the way. Just punching that ticket into the main draw brought up emotions I can’t even begin to describe. Thinking about the years I’ve poured into this sport and the incredible people I’ve met along the journey, I simply feel lucky.

Then came the main draw. We battled hard right out of the gate in our first match, but came up just short against Boremans/Schalk. From there, we had a tough matchup against Connole/Klasnic. Honestly, that was probably some of the best volleyball @chrisshaffer_3 and I have played together. We took the game in 2 sets, 21-19 21-12, and kept our tournament run alive!

Next up was Bradford/Cory. Chris played phenomenal ball, while personally I didn’t play the way I wanted to. We ground it out every single rally and finished losing 19-21 and 20-22. Looking at these scores it looks great, but those 2 points each set are what makes and breaks to the next level.

This weekend gave me more than I could’ve asked for, and I’m hungrier than ever. I love to compete and now the real work begins!💪

Now, to spotlight one of our beach volleyball athletes…Jackson Reed!!

Jackson grew up in South Orange County and Carlsbad, CA. His family got him into volleyball while his mom played at U of Arizona and UCSB!

Jackson grew up going to watch his cousins play and he says he “wanted to be just like them”.

Jackson loves his sport because he gets to showcase his athletic ability, love of competition, and gets to be outside/at the beach!

Fun fact: Jackson played for the Philippines Indoor Volleyball National Team before transitioning to a professional beach volleyball career.
