And just like that, 6 unbelievable months come to an end.
One day I’ll have the words to describe how truly special this is place is!
Until then, I’ll always remember the family dinners, the nights out, the trips, the good shifts and the bad shifts, and the special family we made here in NZ. We didn’t get the time we deserved together, but that’s what makes it so much more special.
I’ll be back soon, cya Queenstown 🫶🇳🇿

Challenge is relative. For one person, challenge might mean solo traveling internationally. For someone else, it might mean moving away from home for the first time, learning how to support themselves financially, stepping into unfamiliar social environments, or letting go of the version of life they thought they were supposed to want.

A meaningful gap year isn’t about performing independence. It’s about honestly identifying the areas where you still need to grow and then intentionally putting yourself in situations that stretch you in those directions.

Jackson gets into this idea in such a thoughtful and grounded way. 🎧 Listen to the full episode at gapyearradiopodcast.com or wherever you get your podcasts.

✨ Season 10 Finale Drop! Jackson on Work, Travel and Taking the Scenic Route ✨

Today’s episode features Jackson Balin, a 20-year-old from Vancouver who decided to step away from the traditional university timeline and spend a year working and traveling through Tennessee and New Zealand via @adventureexp.

Jackson rebranded his gap year as a growth year. We talk about destination work, culture shock, difficult friendships, resilience, service jobs, and the surprising ways that discomfort and uncertainty can shape you during young adulthood.

What I appreciated about Jackson’s perspective in this episode is that he doesn’t frame uncertainty as failure. He talks about challenge, discomfort, and detours as necessary parts of becoming more resilient and more fully yourself. We approve!

Thanks to all the listeners out there for an awesome 10th season of Gap Year Radio! We'll be back next season with more inspiring gap year stories to help you plan your own gap year adventures.
