🎬Filmmaker Spotlight: Jackson McKeehan, director of HVAC!

In a collision of longing, innocence, and danger, a young boy at the threshold of adolescence discovers how desire can destabilize reality and transform identity in an instant.

“As an artist, I’m interested in using heightened realism and surreal images to portray the intensity of desire. In HVAC, this intensity is juxtaposed against the familiar textures of rural Midwestern life, transforming the banal into something uncanny. The backdrop, a Victorian-era community playhouse, becomes both a stage and a trap—a cinematic entanglement of performance, repression, and desire.

Generally, I’m interested in class, desire, identity, and performance through dark comedy, psychological tension, and heightened Americana. Drawing from my background in theatre, visual art, and fashion, as well as my upbringing in rural Missouri, I work to transform familiar American spaces into places where longing, humor, and violence co-exist.”

Please join us August 29th at 2:30 for our Saturday Shorts film block, to be followed by a Q&A featuring Jackson McKeehan and Michael Doshier!

In addition to being at @outsouthqueerfilmfest this weekend, we will also be having our International Premiere at the Bengaluru International Short Film Festival @bisffblr in Bangalore, India. We are so honored to be a selection at this Oscar Qualifying (were we to win, we'd be able to launch an oscar nom campaign) festival. The bounty has been good and we're just thrilled that so many people are able to see HVAC worldwide.
