At what point will we choose coexistence? 💔

We have already taken so much from our wild brothers and sisters. We’ve destroyed and fragmented their homes, depleted their food sources, polluted their waters, and killed them by the hundreds of millions or more. 💔

And then, when our paths cross and an apex predator behaves like an apex predator, we punish them for it. We kill wolves for preying on livestock after transforming their habitat and removing their native prey. 🐺

We kill bears after they learn to associate human spaces with food. 🐻

We fear and kill sharks for simply existing in their own ocean. 🦈

And despite the myth, there is no scientific evidence that great white sharks become “habituated to human flesh” or develop a taste for humans after an encounter. Humans are not their natural prey. Sharks can learn to associate certain cues with food, but that is very different from becoming conditioned to hunt people!!!!

We have spent generations asking wildlife to adapt to us: to survive in smaller spaces, with fewer resources, surrounded by our roads, homes, livestock and recreation. And when they cross the boundaries we created, they pay with their lives. At what point do we stop asking wildlife to change and start changing ourselves? 💔🌎

Apex predators are not villains. They are essential parts of functioning ecosystems, and they deserve a place on this planet too. Choose coexistence. 🐺🐻🦈

PERFEIÇÃO! 😍✨🖤

Como não se apaixonar? 🫶🥰

Essa coisa linda na sua tela é uma Onça-preta, também chamada de Onça melânica ou simplesmente Pantera Negra.

Basicamente é uma Onça pintada com excesso de melanina, o que confere sua pelagem preta.

It’s not everyday that I receive visitors in my greenhouse! I cleaned the glass to let more daylight in, the roof was a step too far! I swept and tidied a little bit but to be honest the greenhouse is a working home for my overwintered plants, seeds and seedlings 🌱 I chatted to @bbcinkent about what you can sow and grow now even if you have no access outdoor space for a new segment. Gardening 101 to be aired on 16th February. If you are new to gardening this is for you. #grow #gardening #gardens #greenhouse #growyourown #sussex #gardens #sow #homegrown #fruitandveg #backyardgardening #homeproduce #growwell #beginner #newtogardening

It’s Baraka’s 30th birthday!

Baraka, whose name means “blessed” in Swahili, is a blind black rhino living at Ol Pejeta Conservancy in Kenya, where he serves as an ambassador for rhino conservation.

Born in the wild in 1994, Baraka lost his right eye in 2008 during a fight with another rhino and later developed a cataract in his left eye, leaving him fully blind and unable to survive in the wild.

For his safety and well-being, he was moved to a 100-acre enclosure near the Morani Information Centre, where he receives dedicated care.

Baraka has become a symbol of the challenges facing black rhinos and the importance of protecting them.

Visitors to Ol Pejeta can meet Baraka, interact with his keepers, and even feed him, deepening their connection to wildlife conservation through his inspiring story.
