WE’VE COME A LONG WAY, BABY!

Did you know that before 1967 a woman was not able to run a marathon?

Today I pulled out my MARATHON WOMAN shirt out of my drawer to wear because it’s marathon week in Chicago.

It made me reminisce and share with my daughter the story of how I got the shirt in New York when I worked for Bally Total Fitness. I got to meet Kathrine Switzer and heard directly from her the story about her experience with the Boston Marathon. I bought this shirt from her too and kept it all these years because it means so much to me.

Ironically, I’m going to 60 this year and a woman couldn’t even run marathon when I was born. Made me think about how much our mothers were up against and how our daughters take so many things for granted. We must teach them!!

Run strong 💪 on Sunday ladies!

The 1967 Boston Marathon Story: Switzer recounts how she registered using the name “K.V. Switzer” because the race app didn’t ask your sex because it was assumed you were a man. She became the first woman to officially run the then all-male Boston Marathon. During the race, race director Jock Semple famously attacked her in an attempt to tear off her bib and eject her, captured in an iconic photograph. With help from her boyfriend, she fended him off and finished the race.

Three generations using Power Plate! Here’s to my daughter, my mother and myself working out on Power Plate. I have worked for almost 9 years at Power Plate and I finally got my 84 year-old mother to use it.. Her birthday is 8/30/42 so let’s give her a shout out-almost 84 😊

After several falls in the last year- the final straw was when she did a plank fall in front of me when I came to visit. Basically a plank fall is when you fall without any reflexes kicking in like putting your hands down or bending at your torso to protect yourself. She literally fell and hit her head falling straight like a plank. It was the scariest thing I’ve ever seen.

She lives in downtown Asheville, North Carolina which is very hilly with lots of sidewalks that are uneven. Since using Power Plate in May, she hasn’t fallen and even has caught herself stumbling which is a sign. Power Plate is working.

Why? Because Power Plate uses rapid, multi directional vibration to create micro instability. This forces the body to constantly fight to maintain balance, triggering, natural stretch reflux that makes stabilizer muscles in the core hips and joints, rapidly contract, and relaxed, dozens of times per second.

This is a use it or lose it type situation so as we age, if we’re not challenging ourselves to do this, we lose it. You can regain it so easily with Power Plate in just a few minutes a day. I’ve seen people go from walkers to walking. The cheap Amazon plates do not do what this plate does FYI.

Best weekend ever.

As we get ready to graduate, it’s hard to fully capture what this past year has meant to us. Somewhere along the way, this group became so much more than an organization. It became a support system, a home, and a family. We showed up for each other through every late night, every challenge, every celebration, and every unforgettable moment in between. The memories we made and the connections we built are something we’ll carry with us long after tomorrow.

A huge thank you to Ernesto Cabrera, our incredible advisor, and to everyone who helped make this experience so meaningful.

Bobcats may have been what brought us together, but the friendships, memories, and sense of family we found here are what will last a lifetime.

Kicking off our first one, we spent the day cleaning up campus, creating bracelets and cards, and sharing encouragement at Banner Children’s Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House. Proud of the impact we made and excited to see this grow into a yearly tradition!🤍

February really is the month of love! So thankful for this university and the community that always shows up! ❤️

Hey everyone, my name is Jaclyn Davis, and I am this year’s Bobcat #11! I am from Chicago, Illinois, majoring in Finance, pursuing a certificate in Honors Civic Leadership. This year, I have served as one of our class’s alumni liaisons, Lighting of ‘A’ Mountain, and Bobcat Alumni Weekend chairs. During my time at Arizona, I have been very involved on campus. Coming to Arizona, I knew no one, but I’ll be graduating with a new home. Around campus, I have served as the Chapter President and VP of Chapter Enrichment and Belonging of Alpha Chi Omega. Outside of that, I have held the positions of VP of Programming for the Arizona Consulting Club, VP of Marketing on the Eller Leadership Board, and Newsletter Chair for my business fraternity, Delta Sigma Pi. After graduation, I will be returning to Chicago to work as a Consultant with Oliver Wyman.

Although it is hard to pick one favorite memory as a Bobcat, it was probably Lighting ‘A’ Mountain. Driving up there with my class and setting the flares made the moment special. Spending quality time with my best friends has been one of my biggest takeaways from this experience. Whether it be getting food or just talking in the car for hours, I am always having fun with them.

This organization has truly made my senior year so special, and I am forever grateful for the opportunity it gave me to meet this group and the amazing alumni. Bear Down and EV!
