As summer comes to an end, I just want to say thank you to everyone who trained with me and supported me along the way.

Being relatively new to this game and building myself in a new country, every opportunity, every referral and every person who trusted me with their training means a lot.

This summer gave me the chance to work with so many different athletes and people, build relationships, learn, and continue growing as a coach.

Still a long way to go, but I’m grateful for everyone who has been part of the journey so far.

Thank you for trusting me.
More to come.

A lot of athletes already have strength and conditioning through their school or team.

But when one coach is responsible for 15–20+ athletes at the same time, it’s difficult for every part of the program to be completely individualized.

Every athlete comes with different needs, training histories, schedules and demands from their sport.

That’s where I see my role.
My responsibility is to fill the gaps.

Understand what they’re already getting. Identify what might be missing. Then provide the individual support that makes sense for that athlete at that point in their season.

Sometimes that means building a physical quality that needs more attention. Sometimes it means addressing an individual limitation. Sometimes it means adjusting the work based on what their week already looks like.

I ain’t trying to replacing their team program or simply adding more work.
But to make sure the athlete is getting what they need alongside everything they’re already doing.

Don’t skip the basics.

It’s easy to see an NBA athlete doing something on social media and assume you need it too.

At that level, there may be a specific rationale behind it. These athletes already have years of neuromuscular and musculoskeletal development, so chasing marginal adaptations can make sense.

But for most you young developing athletes, the biggest return is still in mastering fundamental movement patterns.
Squatting, hinging, lunging, pushing, pulling and bracing develop intermuscular coordination, force production, proximal stability and force transmission through the kinetic chain.

Sprinting, jumping and changing direction then require those qualities to be expressed under greater velocity and time constraints.

You don’t need more complexity before you have the capacity to handle it.

Build force.
Build tissue capacity.
Build movement competency.
#Then express it faster.

Don’t skip the basics.

A traditional dead bug uses opposite arm and leg extension, creating a contralateral pattern while challenging the anterior core to maintain lumbopelvic position.

Switching to same side arm and leg extension changes the rotational demand. With both limbs moving away on the same side, the trunk has to resist rotation and extension while maintaining rib cage and pelvis orientation.

Both variations challenge the abdominal wall and obliques to create proximal stability while the extremities move.

The goal stays consistent. Maintain lumbopelvic control, resist unwanted lumbar extension and rotation, and create efficient movement around a stable trunk.

A game-day lift is simply the right dose of the right stimulus at the right time.

When programmed properly, it activates the nervous system, increases motor unit recruitment, improves movement efficiency, and gets the body producing force without creating unnecessary fatigue. The goal is to feel more reactive, and more prepared to compete.

It also serves another purpose that many athletes overlook.

Every quality lifting session helps maintain strength, power, tendon health, and tissue capacity throughout the year. Those qualities don’t stay around just because you’re playing games. If they’re never exposed to load, they gradually decline.

With basketball now running almost year-round through summer leagues, AAU, showcases, prep, and club seasons, there isn’t much of a true off-season anymore. Waiting until the season ends to develop your athleticism often means waiting for a time that never really comes.

The athletes who continue to expose their bodies to quality strength work during busy competition periods are usually the ones who stay more explosive, more resilient, and better prepared over the course of a long season.

Lateral movement is all about context.

I don’t think it’s as simple as saying the cross step is better or the shuffle is better. It really depends on the sport, the situation, how much ground you need to cover, and what you’re trying to achieve.

If you need to move a greater distance as quickly as possible, a cross step will usually get you there faster. If you’re making small adjustments and trying to stay square to an opponent, a shuffle often makes more sense.

The best athletes aren’t limited to one movement pattern. They know when to shuffle, when to cross step, when to open their hips, and when to sprint. They adapt to what the situation requires.

Good movement isn’t about picking one technique and using it for everything. It’s about understanding when each movement is the right tool for the job.
