@newbalance_not_the_shoes is back with their third record 𝐓𝐨 𝐋𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐢𝐞 𝐈𝐧 𝐋𝐀 out Friday, November 20th! You can check out the first taste of the record 𝐒𝐦𝐨𝐤𝐞 𝐀𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐦 / 𝐓𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐬 now wherever you stream your music

“New Balance is the quintet of Jeremy Leasure, Jacob Maag, Emily Monnig, Dawson Timpany, and Andy Campbell and this is our “LA” record. Shaped by wildfires, modest apartments, heat islands, devastating earthquakes, and the surveillance state. It is ultimately saved from being unbearably depressing through beautiful moments of love and tenderness in the arrangements and performances.

Recorded live in a room together (with minor overdubs) by @letsget_instacrazy. Intentionally leaning into tempo changes, mic bleeds, and improvisation forward structures. A warts and all approach to making a record.”

Both songs were mixed by Jeremy Leasure, and mastered by @rayxromano

Finally, you can preorder 𝐓𝐨 𝐋𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐀𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐢𝐞 𝐈𝐧 𝐋𝐀 on cassette over at ABR’s website, and catch New Balance live this next Friday (09/18) at Frogtown’s Elysian Valley Lodge. DM for address :)

@newbalance_not_the_shoes is back with their first release since 2022, the double-single “Lemon Slice / Pocket Change”

Now a quintet featuring Jeremy Leasure, Jacob Maag, Emily Monnig, Dawson Timpany, and Andy Campbell. “Lemon Slice / Pocket Change” is the first taste of their forthcoming 3rd record “To Live And Die in LA,” out in 2026.

In “Lemon Slice” Leasure attempts to document the deep reserve of sadness that lies just below the surface. As society becomes increasingly more unhinged, the smallest things can become devastating. Reminders of what we are enacting upon ourselves and our planet. We carry grief, often times without registering the ways it seeps into our daily lives.

Both songs were recorded live by @letsget_instacrazy , mixed by Jeremy Leasure, and mastered by @rayxromano

You can catch New Balance live this next Tuesday (09/16) at @scribble.community alongside @left.tracks and @tam.exe , with all proceeds from the show going towards Scribble’s mental health services.

Links to stream “Lemon Slice / Pocket Change” and for tickets to the show can be found in our bio :)

New Balance is back now as a quintet! After a few years in the wilderness we’re putting out two new songs next Tuesday, Sept 9th through @anxietyblanketrecords !

These are songs about the horrors of our reality and the ways that we view them from near and far, hearsay and rumor, sadness from complicity, etc and so forth.

We’re also playing at @scribble.community on Sept 16th with our friends @left.tracks and @tam.exe ! All proceeds from the show go towards Scribble’s mental health services which are invaluable to our local community.

You can pre-save “Lemon Slice / Pocket Change” and get tickets to the show through the link in bio :)

Hi! Just realized that Wednesday was the 4 year anniversary of Don’t Let This Define Me. The album starts to feel more strange and at times kind of embarrassing the more distance I get from it, but I am still very proud of it. I am definitely in a different place in life and feeling very moved on from much of what I expressed and worked through in these songs, but it was a unique and beautiful moment where I was so deep in working on music and overwhelmed with purpose and passion. Maybe not a realistic feeling to have all the time, but I’m glad I got to experience it during that time. It healed me in a lot of ways. I owe many new friends I’ve made, places I’ve been, and things I’ve been able to see and experience due to this record. Full lengths are hard and exhausting, and I’m glad I pulled it off. Our modern age tends to bury our creations under mountains of content within minutes, it feels like. But hey, it’s good to know this thing still exists. LPs are still in stock, if you want one. I believe strongly in the power of physical media, and these records were beautifully designed by @mileswintner. Hit up @anxietyblanketrecords if you want one. Thanks again to everyone who worked on this record and had a part in it. I feel forever bonded to you all.

I’m still taking a much needed break from this project for a while, but I know I’ll come back to it in some capacity soon. Maybe a show by the end of 2025, maybe some new recordings in 2026. Time will tell. For now, check out my new band @hundredblissband. I’m very proud of the music we’re making and we’re having a very fun time doing it. Til next time 💙
