From wall to ceiling.
For this project by @jacques.grange, our craftsmen created all the bespoke joinery that structures the interior, from the wood panelling to the storage concealed behind the wall covering.

Every element was designed, crafted and installed by the Maleville teams to accommodate exceptional furniture and works of art, as though they had always been an integral part of the interior.

Inside the extraordinary New York residence of Jean and Terry de Gunzburg, interior designer Jacques Grange brings together museum-worthy masterpieces, rare 20th-century furnishings and timeless architectural elegance.

From Francis Bacon’s monumental triptych to works by Picasso, Calder and Jean Dunand, every room reveals a dialogue between artistic expression and exceptional design. More than a residence, this is a deeply personal world shaped by a lifetime of collecting.

These triangular nesting tables draw inspiration from the work of cabinetmaker and sculptor Clément Rousseau (1872–1950), who made shagreen one of his signatures in the 1920s.

@jacques.grange revisits this iconic vocabulary with a contemporary eye: shades of green, tapered legs, delicate marquetry lines and dyed shagreen panels arranged in a radiating sunburst pattern.

A true pleasure and privilege for our workshop to bring such an emblematic Art Deco piece to life.

A Peaceful Haven in Connecticut

A serene beauty and a connection with nature as a philosophy of life inspired Jacques Grange when he approached his first architectural project in the United States. The owners’ trust allowed Grange to express himself fully, both as an architect and as a decorator.

Respecting the architectural style of New England while interpreting it through the prism of a Japanese temple, he explored the way views evolve as one moves through the house and its covered terraces, creating both a dialogue between indoors and outdoors and the sensuality of a hidden unity. Throughout the house, the presence of the site is constantly felt: landscapes are framed by carefully positioned windows opening onto dense woodland, immaculate lawns, or a brushed-steel sculpture by Ellsworth Kelly, in which the surrounding vegetation is delicately reflected.

Inside, the harmony of natural materials and colors extends the landscape indoors: woven-straw armchairs, the walls and shelving of the library in pale sycamore, and a fireplace clad in a patchwork of herringbone terracotta tiles. Together, they form a peaceful backdrop for furniture by mid-century Italian designers Franco Albini and Carlo Scarpa, as well as French masters such as Jean-Michel Frank.

The elegant vertical composition of the entrance and central staircase, clad in iroko wood, reflects Jacques Grange’s desire to make the intrinsic qualities of materials as important as the structure of the décor itself. It is an intimate space that allows light to flow through. Upstairs, in the study and living room, the structure of the ceiling is highlighted with sycamore.

The bold architecture of the pool house has an almost Hollywood quality, with broad steps descending into the pool. It is clad in large-jointed green ceramic tiles and furnished with vintage rattan pieces by Paul Frankl, similar to those seen in Charles Walters’s High Society, starring Grace Kelly.

This house was Jacques Grange’s first architectural project in the United States.
