Reasons to Be Homesick by Jacques Benazra (2026) Benazra is an artist based in Brooklyn who works across several mediums, with his strongest background in photography. This series was made around New York over the month of July and follows the period when he was first becoming friends with the girls in these pictures. The series takes its title from the feeling of being far from home and missing the people who make it one.

Jacques @jacquesbenazra | jacquesbenazra.com Hello my name is Jacques Benazra, I am a 21 year old documentary photographer in New York City and around the world. At this moment I am finishing my BFA in photography and related media at the Fashion Institute of Technology. I am also a 2024 Eddie Adams Workshop Alumni. My work is home to youth, friendship, intimacy and people around the world. I live my life to the fullest, doing what I’m interested and passionate about outside of photography, and bringing photography into these worlds. If I’m not passionate about my subjects, I lose interest. I love my subjects. Whether that is documenting the close friendship between himself and his nine friends of girls, at a punk show, a hippie music festival, skateboarding, a wedding, or in a different country, I am there documenting what I deem important. A preview of @jacquesbenazra ‘s work. “Hi my name is Jacques Benazra, I am a 20 year old documentary and street photographer living in Brooklyn. I have two main projects, one on the Hasidic communities in Brooklyn (the work shown on this post). And a much more personal body of work on my group of friends which consist of nine girls including my girlfriend (which is the work up for the exhibition). The project started as a way to remember everything we do but turned into a deeper project while doing the same thing. As we all got closer so did this project become to me. They all mean the world to me and so does this work. I am so excited for them to see what me sticking a camera in their face for the past year has turned out to be. Excited for you all to see this work as well. Tell all your friends, mine will be there.“
